So did NVIDIA lie about the prices or what?

Nvidia never mentioned UK retail prices after price-gouging. they listed US MSRP which is accurate. What isn't clear is if non-FE cards will be available to by on the 27th for the $600 tag.

Non price gouging would be £577 add shipping costs from U.S that could bring prices to ~£590. Regardless of price gouging the 1080 is overpriced by significantly more than recent top end GPUs.

980Ti ~£520
Fury X ~£520

Both of these GPUs were available at this price on release.

It should be clear that releasing a cheaper card that is more powerful, quieter, cooler and more OC'able would make Nvidia rather angry (no one is going to buy the FE then) and the shareholders of those AIB companies also pretty mad! I'll eat my face if we see cards cheaper than the FE which offer better specs. At best we'll get some some crappy blower versions, just so Nvidia can say "look there's your $599 card, stop whining! Now give us your money suckers!!"

Under US prices the 1080 is $50 more than the 980 with about $20 inflation since then.

The fastets cards have always been around the $700 mark:

We're not in the US so the only pricing that applies here is UK MSRP which is ~£580 before price gouging. I will wait to see if the cheaper non-FE versions show on 27th before declaring this the release price. So if cheaper 1080s show on release date then it might just match 980Ti and Fury X release prices.

None of this changes the fact the FE edition is price gouging at it's very worst.

why are people surprised ?

gpu prices been rising for years.they have a product they know will sell well tech sales no it will sell well so they gunna milk it.

you would if you were selling its business.

do i agree with the pricing no.

the 1080 is meant as a 980 gtx replacement. the 980 gtx was £400 for bottom end card or entry.

the 1070 is the 970 gtx replacement which was £270 ish at release.

so as you can see the replacements are just milking it.

if you dont agree just dont buy first month they will drop £50 quid first month or be available elsewhere when whoever realizes how stupid the prices is and does a deal.

Yeah you can't "replace" any product in a range with something that costs 50% more!

I look forward to the 1070 costing £400+, and the 1060 £280+

Those of us with enough sense not to get caught up in Pascal fever might be able to afford a 1040 or 1050 :p

The official release price of 980 was $549. The official MSRP of non-founders editions of the 1080 is $599. Not a huge difference.
I won't be buying a Founders at the current stated UK prices, but let's see how it goes after this initial price bulge.
