As to the rest of it, I think everyone is entitled to an opinion no matter how ill-informed they may be on a subject. The only question remaining is how much weight it is appropriate to give to their views. Occam's Razor, although an idea that is founded in science, seems equally applicable when confronted with most conspiracy theories.
It's great to keep an open mind but I worry that many people confuse the phrase "an open mind" with "you must accept any theory that passes you by" - listen to as many theories as you want but please critically evaluate them and bear in mind that if they seem too complicated to be true or have basic flaws in reasoning that they're probably not worth persevering with.

It wouldn't be great if that happened but then again the more likely option is that some smart people choose their candidate for the populace to vote on so we've got a democracy.

What exactly is there to be scared of? Lets take the view that there is this fantastical secret society that has been in charge of the world for hundreds of years. It has zero impact on my life. If it is politicians in Westminster or a secret Cabal making the decisions it makes little difference. I alone cannot change anything either way. So the prospect scares me not one little bit. However all the evidence points towards there being no secret society. There is not one credible piece of information for it.
But you aren't bringing anything new to the dicussion, you even tried to tie this in to your delusions by trying to link it with the Rockafellas because you seem to be completely unable to recognise Mervyn King. You feed your own delusions.
But you aren't interested in the truth, you are only interested in things that support your viewpoint. Hence a missed handshake between Gordon Brown and Mervyn King becomes a masonic sign between Godorn Brown and David Rockafella.
I could be wrong, but to me it does look like Mervyn King, who is currently at the G20 IIRC.
In any case, the point is moot; the white haired guy could be absolutely anyone and the handshake would still be irrelevant because it's just a handshake.

The point which seemed to go whooshing over your head is that the difference is pretty negliable to me personally between an elected government and a shadowy cabal. Either seemed to have generally increased the quality of life over the last several hundred years.

The NHS database which forces me to verbally recite my entire medical history to the specialist at my local NHS hospital because the NHS database doesn't allow him access to my file at my local NHS medical centre, so he has to take dictation from me and create a brand new medical file from scratch. That NHS database.

However the freemasons are hardly a secret organisation - so no biggie really even if he is a freemason. Shock horror the PM is part of a club in which a bunch of old men get together have dinners and raise money for charity.....

You aren't really a student of history I take it? I would much rather deal with our levels of violent crime than with Victorian levels of violent crime. Especially if you also had to have victorian levels of health care and education to go along with it.
Why would I need a right to determine what information is recorded about me by doctors? What purpose would that serve? They're reliant on me for information anyway, so they'll only ever know what I choose to tell them, or what they learn from medical tests to which I have given my consent.
Consequently, most of the information they record will be stuff I've told them myself, while the rest will be notes about diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Additionally, I am fully entitled to know the contents of my own file - so what's the big deal?
As for "veto how it is recorded"; what the hell are you talking about?

There is nothing overly secretive about the masons, they mainly moan about stuff in their "secret" meetings to make themselves feel better. There are/have been 3 grandmasters within my current family that are still alive. People seem to fear any society which is deemed as secret, yet miss the point that being secret does not mean it is mysterious, it merely means they can control who joins and can feel special about themselves. No one controls how you live your life but yourself.

I don’t know how many crimеs were committed in the 19th century and nor does anybody else, anymore than how many mеn were shaved in a particular Barber’s in Drury Lane in 1838 as all we have to go on is Recorded Crimе.
However, and very relevantly, the perception of the Victorians was definitely that crime had dеcreased in their lifetimes, but on that basis I suspect that even the 18th century Londoners felt safer than they do in the 21st century. The perception of (non lying) citizens of a cеrtain age in this country at this time (including mе) is that crime has rocketed in their lifetimes and this is reflected, even without recourse to crime figures, in the simple commercial/utilitarian fact of reinforced glass/plastic now manifest еverywhere from shops to telephone kiosks to Bus Stops, signs asking the public not to attack members of staff, the very fact that as a toddler, one remembers one could walk around virtually unaccompanied etc etc ad inf.
The fact that all Churchеs are locked now, when this didn’t use to be so, including in the 19th century, a thousand other things. Use your usually pragmatic to the point of callousnеss Left Wing head, why weren’t these visible signs of malfeasance apparent in crystal glass 19th century London? I find it significant that Samuel Johnson in the 18th century and Charles Dickens in the 19th century, London Lovers alike, both wondered the strеets through the small hours in all areas night after night without any serious crime befalling them. Johnson said the muggers left him alone because they knew he had no monеy. Wouldn’t happen now. He would be more likely to have his ‘head kicked in like a football’ for the gratuitous ‘fun’ of it and a token £2 stolеn from him and it filmed on the mobile for skunk fuelled replay (a précis of actual contеmporary London Crimes in the New Britain)

No, it's not hidden. It's not hidden because it isn't actually true. And if it really was hidden, there's no way it could be uncovered by a handful of morons with an internet connection. Don't you think secret societies are just a little bit smarter than that? Maybe? Follow the logic, perhaps?
I love conspiracy theorists. They're the sort of people who believe that they are personally threatened by a secret, all-powerful international consortium whose identity and plans are so evil, so brilliant, so exquisitely crafted, so complex and so well hidden that their full details can only be discovered by a 2-minute Google search.
Evangelion these secret groups have been around for centuries. It's only over the past ten years with the unrestricted flow of information over the internet that has uncovered them.
