my first car was a fiesta 1.25 zetec, amazing first car, 120,000 miles with no service history and yet ran like clockwork for 7000 miles, just enough to get me to work and back during the holidays then scrapped it for £100 less then what I bought it for
After seeing my brother going through the pain of trying to find a cheap and cheerful car and getting nowhere, I'd say £500 was a bargain.
I'm (sort of) guilty of plunging in at the deep end. I was a late bloomer in passing my test at 19 (didn't need a car because of college, petrol costs etc.) and had a 1.3 for 6 months until I got bored of it and bought a 2.0 Nissan Primera GT
It cost me £1,400 to insure then, which was only £300 more than the little 1.3
If I was in the market for a small, cheap car it would have to be a Punto, simply because it's the more charismatic, less dull option
