Cannot remember if I posted about the Sheffield Wednesday vs Brighton Hove Albion match; but I'll give my thoughts (even if it's a while afterwards).
I cannot say I was impressed by Brighton, not because they're a bad side, but because I do not feel they have improved on last season which was when they proved they were a good side. They were organised, defensive, physical, pressed high/hard, used the ball well, all of which I knew going in to this.
I expected more from a Wednesday side, who I feel have not progressed as I expected. Brighton were the better side, but it was more a case of Wednesday allowing them to be. Wednesday lacked the organisation, pressing, pace, tempo, physicality, and failed to use the ball well enough at all.
While Wednesday have picked up results recently, I would argue that they have rarely deserved to get more than a point. The form and performances have been poor to average (at best) and the players look unorganised.
I literally cannot fathom why Wednesday keep trying to play four, four, two. Why players who's form is poor remain in the squad. I don't understand.
Wednesday are still in a decent place in the league, and I believe the club can turn it round, we have an excellent squad with some real quality but it has been poor football for a few matches now. I'm not expecting anything radical; but playing a system which suits the players we have and not picking players who are under performing would be a start.
Brighton deserved the win, but in reality Wednesday deserved to lose.
Little has changed in my mind about Brighton, they are a good team, they've not improved hugely on last season, but then again I would argue that they did not need to. They would have been one of my tips for promotion this season.
My only criticism is that they do what Middlesbrough did (except Brighton play better football in doing so), which is to grind out results. The main difference is that more often than not, Brighton play tidy, decent football. I think this Brighton side are better than 'grinding out a result', I think that there are quite a few teams in this league that Brighton would absolutely ruin if they wanted to.
