So this Pokemon Go fad thing ..............

With a job and a life you can't keep up. The vast majority of people will find this

Hopefully it isn't hard for most people to find something more enjoyable than a collect-em-up to spend their time, so that not being able to play GO isn't such a big deal...

It really does have all the marks of a short-lived fad anyhow.

No, went for a walk in the park today with the gf and it was nicer than looking at a screen and walking around.

Would much rather this game was like the original but you could meet at gyms and play with real people at a level appropriate.
Ie making gaming social.

The reason I haven't bought an xbox one or ps4 is the disconnected nature of no local coop. I was hoping this would be that new real life social in person gaming experience.

They have all the ability to make it a social fun game.. But all the interaction is disconnected from real people

This for me is the trick they are missing, and this would be my route for 'leveling up'

In the meantime, I'm tempted to just start playing pokemon despite being far too old the first time it took off and certainly being too old to play it now :p

Yeah, wild!

Seeing as they're all happy with this kids thing, playing, poking and making fools of themselves then I'm happy for them. Just keep out of my way... :p

The amount of people who refer to this and use the word Pokemon "thing", kids "thing" because despite you living under a rock, the whole world knows what Pokemon is and you're too embarrassed to show it.

It has been a craze since the 90s.

Yeah, I've downloaded it and caught two :p

I am not ashamed. Looks like it could actually be quite fun, it got the GF and me giggling anyhow.

I find this game a wonderful phenomenon, I've heard countless stories of people getting out, spending time with their kids or friends, meeting new people and having a laugh.
Every new fad is met with the standard hipster "I'm too cool for that, they're all stupid/idiots!" response.

I don't understand however, how anyone can risk getting run over. If you're crossing a road, LOOK! It's hardly difficult. Plus the game has a battery saver mode, where you invert the phone (i.e. take it away from your face and let your arm sit naturally by the side) and the screen goes black, but will vibrate if you get in range of a pokemon or pokestop/gym. There is literally no need to be staring at it while crossing the road or moving, even.

There's no accounting for stupidity, and with this many people getting in on it, there's bound to be some rare doofus' playing and getting hurt in unimaginable ways.

As opposed to what? Sitting in front of a TV watching imaginary characters act out imaginary storylines?

Every generation seems to think their pastime was more authentic and legitimate than the pastime of the next generation. This is just another example. TBH I'm not in to Pokémon Go. But I'm not sad enough to poke fun at those enjoying it on the basis of "I know better". That's just sad.

It's getting kids out of the house, forcing them to read maps. A month ago that would have seemed unlikely.

I've found it quite fun in the community. I was wandering through Chorlton on Friday night after a couple of pints, and a guy who (yes, i judged his book by his cover) I would probably avoid on a usual night was sat in the centre of the road and looked up and said "Alright mate. There's a Squirtle over there." then went back to his phone.

With all the negative going around (Brexit mixed feelings, Cop Murder etc etc) the world could use a little distraction, however fleeting, that brings people together in any way.

I dont really see why people are so cynical about it, even when they dont partake.
