So what do you buy now?

So what do you buy now?

A bottle of whiskey, some honey roasted cashews and sweet chilli crisps. Then it's time for a greasy-fingered bout of Rocket League with my friends. For these scenarios my 980 Ti still cuts it, although I will keep an eye on 2070 benches/prices just in case my hankering for Witcher 3 at 4K gets the better of me.

no 2nd hand. Hence why I changed the cooler. You'll not find a 1080ti new for that amount for quite a while yet. However 2nd hand market off of OCUK site is starting to pick up with 1080ti's.

There are some deals on 1080Ti's beginning to appear at reputable retailers if you look hard enough. Just picked one up for 20% lower than the price it was this time last week (just <£600) with free Destiny 2 to sell on. Because of my case, needed blower style so went for it. Shame there's nothing similar on OCUK - always my retailer of choice.

I’m just going to stick with my 1080 until 7mm comes out. The new cards are just too overpriced for me and the jump to 1080ti from a 1080 is just not worth the £200+ it would end up costing me.

Am I imagining things, or has the price of the 1070 gone up by about 60 quid on OCUK?

Yes, we sold out of the Inno3D deal stock, no plans to replenish and our other brands are now typically 20 or less in stock, no need to sell at low margin any more, so prices back to a normal level as they will now sell out at those prices.

I am hunting for new deals, but so far no board partner is willing to do anything attractive enough for me to buy in volume I am afraid.

The argument I get from most board partners is, Gibbo the price you want is too low, we can sell at higher price in other regions, so it makes no sense to supply UK market at a loss when we can sell into other regions with profit. That is what I am up against, I am sure eventually a partner will bite and do a deal, but how good that deal shall be is an unknown.

In a way the more time that passes, the less likely a deal is because they would have reduced their inventory to manageable levels, I shall keep pushing them all very hard, but so far none has bitten.

I'll probably pick up an RTX2080 eventually, I always dread buying new cards as it's always a challenge getting a card with no coil whine.

Took three attempts with the GTX1080.

I don't plan on getting a 4K monitor anytime soon so no interest in the Ti version at this time.

Shall be interesting on the new cards regarding coil whine, the frequencies on the memory are insane and I am sure 2000MHz core will be possible overclocked.

New NVIDIA cards are just a stop Gap/money grabbing exercise .... On the other hand with these prices what would the 7nm architecture pricing be next year ?

I'm not sure about that; if RTX2080 outperforms the GTX1080Ti (even if not by a huge margin) then hasn't it effectively done what the GTX1080 did back in 2016 against the GTX980Ti?

Doesn't seem that bad to me.
