So what do you buy now?

I really want to buy one but I have two huge questions:

1. Relative performance of the 2080 related to the 1080ti
2. Relative performance cost of enabling RTX on the 2080 FPS wise

If its like hair works where you need to sacrifice 20-30FPS, then I'd rather wait. The presentation alluded to it being actually lower cost.. but once again no numbers means I can't make an informed decision.

Keep my 390x, and buy a 2nd hand 1080 some point next year. Prices are insane, far too much for the casual gamer.

No major boost to fps but second tier cards with additional functionality at crazy prices to make the 'current' last gen cards look like good value. In any other market this kind of behaviour would be called out for what it is.
So even though I had the cash ready to go I think some of it will be for an X1X for next months RDR2 and will stick with my current gpu which was only an interim as it is still up tp the job albeit at 1080. It looks like my first jump to 4k is gonna be console and tv :(
I guess I will just wait until a decent deal comes along or worst case go second hand.

I think enabling the the RTX will make a hit on FPS, it may be a lower cost but compared to what. That's why I think in terms of performance you wont see a benefit but it will look slightly better (if you want to stop to look).

It looks like the masses are mainly boycotting the 2080ti not the 2080/2070 which are more reasonably priced...

I'd usualy be all for boycotting Nvidia as a supporter of the underdog but this is me after today: https://i.imgflip.com/2g8qvb.jpg

I actually pre-ordered the 2080 but will cancel the order if fails to beat the 1080ti in benchmarks.

You think £750-800 for a 2080 (which should really be called a 2070) is reasonably priced????

Yes it does seem like a trap when some people Think the 2080 is reasonably priced!!??

Taking into account inflation we should be looking at something like:
Gtx2070 - 350
Gtx2080 - 525
Gtx2080ti - 700

Nvidia treating us like mugs. Like many I could easily afford, but it's the principle.

Was selling my 1080ti but nvidia have shot them self's in the foot with that ridiculous pricing.

I remember seeing talk on here about how RT is the future. Now we have it. Something tells me a year from now we'll all be raving about them, but probably still not happy with the performance. When games get the best out of RT and the Tensor cores, it's gonna be good

I'm waiting on an answer to something as to whether I get a Vega 56 or not. Otherwise there is a very slim possibility I'll get a S/H 1080 but at the moment it's looking like keeping hold of the venerable 970 a bit longer.

Not what I wanted to do as I have the money staring me in the face, but it's sheer lunacy now and Nvidia deserve to receive a massive wake up call from it (we know they won't though :( ).

I wouldn’t be happy either, but I can’t afford £1200 for the new Ti and I bet the vanilla 2080 is barley any better than what I have.

Comes to something when you’re sat there with £900 and have to bail out

Indeed. A 2080 will be a decent upgrade for me but I am not paying £750 for a 2nd tier card!

I put aside £500, and I was determined to upgrade from my 290, now, I’m not sure.
A PS4 and a PSVR looks tempting.

Red Read Redemption 2, and Firewall Zero Hour for the PSVR..

£500 didn’t even get me NVIDIA’s XX70 card...

It’s a joke

Just bought new evga 1080 ti for good price. Wait for the 2080 reviews to come in and if they look any good may do step-up. I was only looking at 20 series for improving vr as my screen is uw 1440p. Ray tracing in assetto Corsa vr may be amazing. But I have a hunch that rtx in vr may be step too far just yet

So what to buy now?... For the same money as a 2080Ti, could buy 2 new consoles + games, or a console + TV, get a new mobile, take a holiday, buy a cheap second hand car, etc. So many ways to spend that money and get more out of it than a new GPU :)

I sold my PC recently, might build a budget 1080p sff htpc in the future to play my steam library but I'm not looking at mid to high end now it's a mugs game

I fancy a PS4 for all the exclusives I've missed out on but know little about them, is it worth getting a pro if you only have a 1080p TV, do you get higher frame rates?

Sticking with my 980Ti. Had thought to upgrade to a 4K ultrawide screen and 2080Ti if prices were reasonable but have thought better of it now. Money will to into a new Xbox One X and new car fund. Not playing on the PC as much as I used to and certainly not any AAA titles mainly flight sims and Assetto Corsa so can't justify that level of expense to upgrade.

Button pushed on PS4 PRO.

The 1080ti can stop until it can’t handle 4k anymore and by the time I may be ready to hang the towel up on the whole thing.

NV taking the ****
