So what do you buy now?

what would help is Sterling gaining strength - £1 - $1.28 - when pascal launch it was £1 - $1.45 , maxwell was £1- £1.57 odd . all cards bought in dollar- then we always pay more in UK.

sure when Gigabyte, ASUS and others make version 2 models using their own PCB and not reference price will come down in the future as well.

Would it? Remember those halcyon days when it was almost £1-$2? I'm pretty sure we didn't pay half the dollar price. Of course the exchange rate matters but it is a convenient excuse to frame increasing prices with.

haha true, if sterling goes up but demand is greater then stock- then UK resellers become the winner - distributors locked in their pricing a lot more from Card Vendors - (asus distributor was listing Strix 1080oc £200 cheaper when they first launched and had 2 month awaiting list on here )

Think I'll wait for benchmarks (Have a 1070 at the mo) and decide if what I can get for my 1070 eats off enough that an upgrade is justified. tbh tho, I think I'm better off changing my 4770k for a 9900 & going up from my 8gb DDR3 to 16+ of DDR4. I had planned to do the lot but gawd it's adding up!

I am waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 before I upgrade, there is nothing coming out before that for me to care enough. If that game actually performs OK on my 1060 I probably won't upgrade at all. I have a PS4 as well which has brought me just as much fun as my PC over the last 3-4 years, so these kind of hardware prices going forward make PC gaming less and less attractive all the time. Maybe the 2060 might be a more attractive upgrade depending on price and performance, but I doubt it will have good performance in raytracing, if it even contains an RT block on the die at all - probably won't if it's branded as GTX.

I would personally pay £500 for a 2080 tops.

Perhaps having a GTX1070 gaming laptop and a PS4 slim was a good move as opposed to blinging the computer up and slapping 800 quid on a RTX2080? I might not have 4k but least HDR works on my mu6400 49" and looks great even at 1080p on the 4k tv.

I placed an order for a 2080ti last night but my madly secure bank blocked it. In the cold light of day I think I will wait for benchmarks first although there may be a regret there as the card I went for has already increased in price. If benchies are disappointing I will probably increase my core count in the form of a 2950x and wait.

Going to wait for reviews, benchmarks and pricing but am looking at replacing my 980 with a 2070, probably in a few months when prices settle a bit.

So with many people set on upgrading and setting money aside for the 2080/2070 myself included....

Now what?

After the initial conference we are now seeing masses boycotting and choosing to use the money for other parts or things.

I’m going to use the money I would have spent upgrading from the 1080 and get a PS4 Pro ready for Red Dead Redemption 2, I think I’ll pick one up tomorrow. :D

Maybe just carry on gaming on your perfectly adequate setup and not throw your toys out of the pram? It's akin to waiting for a new model of a car, finding out it is too expensive, selling your perfectly good car and buying a pushbike in disgust.

I'll buy nothing for now. There's no way I can justify that price if performance gains are minimal and ray tracing is still too slow to use even for minor effects.
