So, you want to keep a pet tarantula?

If anyone's off to the Kettering show today, we'll be loitering around for most of the day trying not to spend too much money. I've already been offered a 7" P. regalis female for £20  How could I refuse?? :D

The show starts at 10.30am and goes on until around 4.30pm (I think). It's at Kettering Leisure Village, which is Thurston Drive, Kettering. It's easy to find. Just off the A14. Multimap is your friend :)

Hopefully see those who are going, there :)

Thinking about getting my first arboreal, south coast exotics have A.purpurea slings in for £8, very tempting but they are a bit small

New Moult

Well it's been a while since I've posted so here goes.

My B Boehmei has moulted again a few days ago and it's looking gorgeous.

My L Parahybana is doing rather well too.

I can't believe how quick this one grows but I tell you one thing, this is a really really angry spider and attacks anything that moves with gusto. It was hanging from my forceps by it's fangs last night the little terror.

Love it to bits though but I still don't know what gender either of my T's are.

Well, I got a reply from DHR but I didn't get one from Akhiu. I need him to get in touch, could one of the Dons send him a mail or a PM and ask him to contact me with his address details again please.

[email protected]

Thanks.

I will have to get them sent on Thursday now. DHR, did you want two B vagans?

hi si_sleaf sorry, my connection packed up for a while so didn't get your msg. Sent you an email now. sorry for the inconvinience ^^;;

Gutted!

It's been a bad day. My girlfriend left the door open to the room that has my T's in and while I was out one of the cats got in and knocked the cage off the table that had my L Parahybana in.

The lid had popped in the fall and the T was killed by the cat. Couldn't find the carcass but there was tell tale smears in the cage with bits of blood in it. I do think the cat ate the T.

I'm so gutted and I feel sick that this has happened. The Boehmei is fine though thank heavens for that but I'm thinking of giving up T's before I get the other one killed.

Joy!

Well after two days of thinking my salmon pink had been killed and eaten by the cat it's turned up on top of my PC.
When I saw it my heart skipped a beat but then I was thrilled to bits to see it safe and sound.
It was missing most of it's hairs of it's abdomen and it was a bit docile but after a drink and a warming up it's back to it's old nasty self.

Yay!

Better it turned up now instead for say; in a few years time as an adult then you heart would have skipped more than one beat ;)

Two days? Bah, that's nothing. I had an escaped Poecilotheria rufilata roaming my room for over a month :eek: Thought he'd either died or wandered out of my room, but last week I woke up to a brown blob on the ceiling. I immediately darted for a cricket tub and caught the little blighter :D He's now safely under lock and key once more and there will be NO escaping this time!! Here he is;

Also thought I'd post a pic of my P. cambridgei’s trying to mate. They've been in together for around an hour now, and they've attempted mating about 6 times. However, every time the male hooks the female and gets her on her back, he completely misses the place where he's supposed to insert his palps and starts rubbing the underside of her abdomen instead. He's a totally useless lover  Luckily for him though, she's been fairly patient....... so far

Him on left, her on right

Hi Nexus

Currently got mated:

Chilobrachys fimbratus
Grammostola rosea
Haplopelma minax
Psalmopoeus cambridgei

So it's a case of waiting for them to either lay an eggsac or just moult and start all over...

I have a male OBT ready but I'm picking it up at the BTS show because the guy is a bit apprehensive about packing it up :)
Had an eggsac from my wild caught H.schmidti but it was infertile

Master Skooter:

Just got that email - and thought "sod it" - I've ordered a large Solifugid (that's a Camel Spider to most people)

I know they don't live for very long - as these are adults they probably only have a month or so to live, but I want the opportunity to photograph one :)
