Repo, Leon won't read this before he goes to the show because he's had to go into work early today and doesn't finish til 8am tomorrow. If you're serious about wanting a T, email me your phone number along with your preferences and I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

email = [email protected]

Email on it's way :)

Directions are here: http://www.thebts.co.uk/directions.htm

LK it's a bit cheeky of me to ask too but i was wondering if perhaps you can get me a few too ^-^;;

i was intending to go to the BTS show too but last minute working schedule means i can't.

i'll just email you just incase it's not too much of a bother :)

sorry if it's hassle

Emails recieved and replied to. I'll see what I can do. :)

si_sleaf, we'll see you there. We'll be the one with boxes full of T's and scorpians (Leon's mate wants us to get him some scorps whilst we're there). :)

I'm awake and free of a hangover after my housemates birthday last night, If I set off now it would probably just be closing by the time I got there. Oh well... Looking forward to a report from you guys who went.

Back from the show and all I can say is WOW!
There really was something for everyone, from 30p Salmon Pinks to £140 Poecilotheria metallica spiderlings! (hugely rare)

Kate and I went on a spending spree, she came back with 4 and I got my fair share too.
We also picked up slings for Repo and hsp70.

So, let's meet the new arrivals.
Please bear in mind all these T's are very cold and very stressed, hence some of them being rather hunched up.

Repo and hsp70, here are your Tiger Rump Doppelgangers (Cyclosternum fasciatum)
These are slightly nervy but non-aggressive tarantulas, I've handled mine with no bother already.
Pretty small (largest I've seen is about 5") but they make up for it in the colouring.

The second one is a touch smaller, but it's JUST moulted today by the looks of things. As for who's getting what, don't ask because they'll be popped in a vial Monday or Tuesday and posted, so you get what yer given :p

I also got some Emperor scorpions for the guy in my pet shop. One is a gravid female, the other is an adult female, and there are 3 babies (I may keep one myself)

Right, that's the stuff bought by proxy over and done with, my own new purchases coming up!

I had a great time at the show but could only stay for an hour because my back was hurting too much.

I got myself a couple of new T's. I got a nice B.smithi and a Curly. In my local pet store a B.smithi of the same size £72. At the show it was £10. Pleased was not the word. My Curly was £2 and is settling in well.

My girlfriend has named all the spiders. My Pokey is called Jerry, my Chile rose has been renamed Margot. My Curly is called Barbara and my B.smithi is called.... Can you guess? That's my girlf showing her age with those names. gold star to whoever guesses the last name

Tom for the last one?

sounds like they are named after the characters in the "Good Life"

P.S.
Those Scorpians make my skin crawl :p

Right, what did I get?

My 3 primary wants were a Pokie (preferably a fasciata), a greenbottle blue and an Avic purpurea.

I managed to restrain myself the first time round because I didn't want to impulse buy and waste all my money before I'd checked out the goods.

BUT.... I found a stunning Pokie fasciata for £15, about 3-4" end-to-end. Absolute BARGAIN, so I handed over the cash and took away jam jar of web, soil and condensation. We couldn't manage to get very good pics because of the mess in there and the glass, but I'm not moving him to a better home until after my exams because knowing my luck I'll get bitten, end up in bed for 3 weeks and miss all my exams. Anyway, he's a psycho.. spends most of the time literally spinning around in circles and generally going mental. This picture does him absolutely no justice whatsoever. I've called him Raj.

Anyway we continued to browse and found a massively crowded stand.. why? Greenbottle blues of course! Snapped one of those up (luckily, because they vanished pretty quick). He's not got a name yet, but he's beautiful with an orange and black stripey abdomen and very green legs. He's also massively phat!

There were no purpurea except a stunning adult (I want a spiderling), so I continued to look around and found P. irminia's (Venezuelan sun tigers) for £2. Bargain! I couldn't actually see them through all the mud and web in the tank, so the bloke said he'd find me a big one.... I was expecting a 1" sling..... It's about 3", Bargain of the century! It's gorgeous!

I bought a few tubs, waterbowls, some peat, Repo and hsp70's spiders and had £1.60 cash left. Leon gave me the extra 40p to buy one of the last £2 curly hairs. He's a cutie and a bit of a biffa already.

I was tempted by the Avicularia metallicas, but I had no money left, and I've already got 2 Avics so I decided I could wait until next year. All in all we had an excellent day out and really enjoyed ourselves. So glad I went.

Here's a better pic of what my pokie looks like;
Poecilotheriafasciata01.jpg

Like I said, his pic does him no justice! His underside has loads of bright yellow on it, so when he goes into a threat pose, it's certainly a pretty awesome sight.

Well before I went I made a wish-list, and promised myself I'd not deviate from it.....too much.

After a long queue to get in, I was very pleased to find that both halls were packed with traders from the UK and Europe - lots of dour humourless Germans.
Plenty of decent-sized adult spiders on show, all at pretty reasonable prices - the only thing I would have called extortionate were the (extremely rare and desirable) Poecilotheria metallica spiderlings at a nut-busting £140 each from some garlic-munching, wine-swilling Frenchman. No way am I paying that - I'll wait until one of my contacts breeds his and starts knocking them out at a far more reasonable rate.

So, onto what I actually bought myself.

First up, just like Kate's, a fat-arsed little Greenbottle blue (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens) I've wanted one of these for so long now, and couldn't resist.

http://www.vsupermarket.co.uk/~lopez/Chromatopelmacyaneopubescens04

Next we have another long-standing fave, and a very similar looking sling - Tiger-rump Doppelganger (Cyclosternum fasciatum)
I swooped down on these and bagged the biggest one at the whole damn show - the Germans were flogging minute ones for £7 a shot, and my beast was only £6!

http://www.vsupermarket.co.uk/~lopez/Cyclosternumfasciatum05

Then we have a lovely arboreal tarantula - the Trinidad Chevron.
These are from the same family as the stunning Suntigers, but are an overall fawn colour with mossy green markings. Nippy, aggressive, and grow to a healthy six or seven inches.

Right, that's the easy stuff dealt with, now here are the trickier ones.

Anyone want to hazard a guess at this little beastie?
It's actually a deep ultramarine blue with golden orange hairs, it's aggressive as hell despite being about half an inch long!

And another mystery - all I can tell you about this one is it looks nothing like the adult it will hopefully become:

http://www.vsupermarket.co.uk/~lopez/Mystery02

Any guesses? I'm thinking about keeping one of those baby scorps myself, they're well cool.

Just got home after another evening of pampering by the gf :p

Those pics look amazing LK & Lopez, excellent stuff :p

That Suntiger looks like it's going to have superb colourings & def. a great buy you got there!

The Tigerrumps both look great; looking forward to mine arriving next week :D

wow you guys got some bargains.

As for that second addition of yours Lopez...I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a cobalt blue.

Did you see any of the goliaths?

We'll be posting them tomorrow mate. I'll feed them both first and then pack them up in the morning.

The blue one with orange hairs, is it a member of the Aphonopelma genus?
Nope, although I was tempted by a lovely Aphonopelma bicoloratum.
Think Asia ;)

Seems the old "fingers crossed" trick works then. Yep, it's a Cobalt blue spiderling. Won't show any blue colouring until it's a fair bit bigger.

Therewere a fair few Goliaths there, but the chapest slings (about Idi's size) were £15 and I didn't want to spend my last £20 note. They can wait for another day. :)

Uha! And suppose it then lands on yer head? lol

Have to agree with Stumpy on this, you spider people are raving mad! :D
At the slightest hint of an 8 legged beasty, I start screaming like Carlton from Fresh price of bel-air. Been scared of tarantula's ever since they showed one killing a baddie on one of the James bond films. Very nice informative and educational thread peeps! I've learned a lot about the lil beasties which I've feared for so long.
