Peeps,

Could someone confirm for me that this skin shows that my

This is very interesting thanks for all the info. I had no idea they were non-fatal or taht they lived so long and all the rest. I realise IM threadjackng here but earlier in the thread you mentioned that house spiders can give you a painful bite, are you talking about the common house spider? The ones you find in the bath and are about 2-3 inches across? My dad always picks these up and I just managed to make myself do it the other night. They havent bitten either of us but your saying they can?

I'd be leaning more towards immature female actually, especially looking at the position of the anterior book lungs.

Lopéz: do you know a guy called Neil (posts on Brum-T's website) - he has a female H.lividium for sale and just wondered if he was ok to deal with etc?

Lopez,

Are you sure it's a female? I've checked some sites on how to gender a T from a skin and I thought it looked like a male.

Then again the moults on those site were from mature T's and as you pointed out my T is still subadult.

I've got some cool pictures of the moult which I'll post today.

Yep Neil's a tidy bloke but I (personally) think his H lividum is overpriced by about a fiver or so :)

Nice moult pics - boehmei is about the only Brachypelma I'd consider shelling out hard-earned for.

Ask Phil Messenger if you can send the skin to be sexed - there are a few other people who will do this accurately for you., I'm not really practiced enough until it comes to adults/nearly adults.

rick west's site has a pretty good page about sexing your spiders.

check it out :)

i've been getting the torch out and flashing my t's to determine their sex and it seems they are all females but i think it might be inexperience or wishful thinking :D

lopez: what about ruhnaui? :p they are pretty stunning to me

I must be one of the few people who can't see the attraction with B ruhnuai. It just looks like an Aphonopelma that got bleached in the sun, or a B vagans with a bleached hairdo ;)
I could quite happily have a "no Brachypelma" rule for my collection. I'd rather fill my shelves with Haplopelma, Cyriopagopus, Chilobrachys, Poecilotheria, Pterinochilus and so on :)
In fact, the less New Worlders the better - the hair makes me itch so much. My Cyclosternum fasciatum moulted yesterday (has yours shed yet Repo? They're siblings remember) and I'm itching like mad from just removing the exuvium.

I don’t really mind the Brachypelma variety (I currently have B.Smithi and B.auratum slings). One Tarantula I personally think is over hyped is the A.Versicolor I saw one at the weekend in a pet shop and the guy there was trying to sell one to me, I think he didn’t believe me when I said I didn't like it much, but I guess it’s down to personal preference ;)

Moving on – I finally got that P.Regalis Spiderling from a local pet shop last night but to find that even though the box was labelled “Indian Ornamental” I thought it looked rather similar to my P.Ornata that died last week. Upon closer inspection of the box I saw a very faint scribble which said – ornate ornamental (I had a quick look on google and it seems that ornate is another name for the fringed – is this true?) so hopefully it looks like I have another P.Ornata. Couldn't believe how bad they are kept in pet shops the poor little pokies tub was crawling with mites :( but its now settled in to its new 5* accommodation :).

Get me some pictures (ventral shots would be handy too) and I might be able to confirm the species. Ornata is generally darker brown/grey with orange/yellow markings, whereas regalis tend to be pale grey/white with lighter yellow markings.

Oh,. and nip over to www.giantspiders.com[url] - new mature male P metallica pic. :)

Anyone here want to have an a.metallica for £5 inc. (and a c.rose if the bugger is still alive in his burrow.

Both slings, the c.rose is very small but the a.metallica is quite big, i'd say about 1" legspan.

Cheers,
