Social club hacked, Change passwords

There are some sites linking to a post from rockstar regarding heartbleed but the article seems to suggest it was posted last year so not sure if related

The OC3D article is quite funny and cites one post from the support forum

The pastebin of supposed 200 accounts doesn't seem to have any proof of being related to rockstar social club and could easily be a list from any other site.

Just a FYI I didnt download any 3rd party programs during my play time on GTA 5. No mods or anything. I played it for days on end with no issues till i got home one day and my email was changed. All my other passwords are fine and I have a pretty decent router and firewall (Bit defender 2015). Am 100% sure my information was stolen from rockstar themselfs and am really annoyed they have yet to get back to me.

What was the character length of your password, and was it dictionary based? IE a word or two, maybe with a number?

Changed mine yesterday morning as soon as I heard about it. Can still log in so doesn't look like it's been comprimised thus far. Would like to hear something official from R*. Would be nice for them to let their customers know rather than hearing rumours from other sites.

Mine is 9 characters, a mixture of upper and lower case randoms with some numbers thrown in for good measure spaced out in between.

Hasn't failed me yet, although remembering can be a pain sometimes.

Password managers are so good in cases like these, account compromised? no problem! A unique password for each login.

I'd suggest Lastpass if you're not already using one.

ive always thought of using one of these but how does it work with mobile logins etc?

9 characters is weak. Why do you need to remember it?

Social Club's 16 character password limit is disappointing.

You use a password storage tool I assume?

It's got ridiculous now having to remember unique passwords mentally, especially as I'm not Dominic O'Brien (world memory champion). But using a password tool seems to add another potential vulnerability. Especially with people saving it on a cloud service.

Because I draw the line at getting it tattoo'd on me.

9 is weak? It's a password for a game not my bank account or porn hdd!

Use a password manager.

Don't make life easy for the bad guys. You don't know how long it would take 'em to "crack" the password hash if they were to get hold of it. For all we know, Rockstar could be storing passwords as MD5 hashes.

I use KeePass.

It is possible to use the cloud to sync a password database while remaining secure. http://easycloudsolutions.com/2013/10/17/dropbox-keepass-synchronize-passwords-staying/

stick your passwords as a chapter from the bible.
easy to remember the chapter and verse makes a long password, no need to store all your passwords digitally and possibly lose them through hardware failure or whatever

like this choose a random chapter and verse from the bible
Revelation 13:16 - And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

Win unless it's somewhere stupid that stores passwords as plain text still...

I use lastpass, it's brilliant. Providing you can remember your password to access it you can access your vault from anywhere. Interestingly, I have a social club account from years ago that I tried to reset when I got the game but i never received the reset email. So I had to make a new social club account.

Well I changed my social club password a couple of weeks ago to something I have never used before. Was in a game session there and got kicked back to desktop because apparently I had signed in on another computer.

Thankfully managed to quickly log onto my social account and change the password before they did. They must have been hacked because it was a random mix match of numbers letters and symbols.

I had my account hacked, got an email yesterday saying my email address had been changed, I tried loading GTA V to check and it had indeed been changed, replied to the email as instructed, received an automated response and have heard nothing since.

I hadn't downloaded any patches or anything so it must have been at their end.

I did discover that I can still play offline if I disconnect from the internet before loading the game, so not as bad as I first thought, I'd not even started playing online so I don't have an online character for them to ruin, but they can obviously spend my preorder bonus, which I'm hoping will be returned along with my account.

I am just glad it happened while I was playing it or I would be gutted. Hope everyone that got hacked gets their accounts restored soon.

I lost my account Saturday night. I have been upped to the correct department but I feel i'll still be waiting a long time. Ive read loads of users have had their accounts stolen over the past week.

I've checked my computer 3 times for any sign of malware Trojan or backdoor key logger and nothing. it's a pretty clean windows 8.1 installation. I know for certain the loss of my account has not come from myself not being careful.

rock* twitter account has been overloaded with people seeking help with hijacked accounts. I'm hoping it's sorted before the weekend but I doubt it :(

I've had the "Your account is signed in from another computer" but I think this was because I was logged into rockstar social either in chrome or at work still. I'm not sure it means the account is hacked. Changed my password anyway though..
