Before you do anything read the FAQ about competitors.

Secondly its hardly worth it, if you want an upgrade save a bit more and go C2D system.

No the thing is I love my rig and am perfectly happy with gaming performance. Just picked up a 3870XT the other day and already have 2gb of corsair xpert ram. The only reason I want one is for better application performance, hardly worth a full system upgrade especially with all my mods etc.

I would say you cold try the MM, but you don't qualify to see it yet...

also, be aware, you aren't allowed to mention competitors to OcUK or prices - the mods are pretty strict on that

I have access to MM, but not everyone does. If I want to offer someone something for sale directly, is it allowed on this forum?

Or can I PM him with my offer (would that break the rules?)

Alternately should I advertise on MM but mention that someone else might be interested ?

Finally should I rather just advertise it on the auction site and avoid problems?

I have read the FAQ and rules, but can't find this specifically.

Thanks for reading

I said that untill i made the jump to core2 and pci-e at the same time. Once you get windows installed you will never look back

Indeed the same is true for me. I had a s939 4400+ with a 7800GTX (which was a screamer at date of purchase) and was very happy with it. Right to the day a friend got a lowly e4300 and showed me the error of my ways :)

I appreciate this but I also have all my other mods and things which I love, and the effort of upgrading to a complete new system (I have limited amounts of money!) and gaming does not struggle my 4000+ is at 3.00Ghz! Its just I want to install vista and I know that the desktop environment will be pretty slow on a single core but it looks sooo nice lol but anyway looks like im sticking with the 4000+ for now might start saving for that C2D rig but i dont see the point when my only weakness is my processor!

What about the asrock board, and E21xx CPU. Even if you have DDR1 ram you can use it on this board.

The thing is, I have done a lot of mods, I have a custom acrylic case which I handmade, and many UV mods etc on various components so I really am limited to 939 socket, I understand that C2D is better and value for money I am not an idiot, all I am trying to say is will this massive hunt for a dual core 939 processor be worth the effort I am putting in over my current 4000+ @ 3.0ghz?? please someone must understand!

939 is old tech now, its obsolete, the remaining 939 CPU's sell for top money on the bay, people fighting to get all the possible performance from older platform hardware.

You should consider upgrading a lot more because anything 939 will still hold back that graphics card in most situations.

I am not sure what you are saying is correct, because if i was to go c2d now, i would be limited to very cheap components only being able to scratch together around £200 for my current components, so gaming performance would not be that far ahead of what i currently have. I'm probably going to stick with this for a while longer because theres no point in upgrading with soo much new hardware coming out daily, plus I have no problem with my system, its just bit laggy in desktop, im not a crysis fanboy so most games run perfect, and I have a small monitor. I guess I should think about forking out for an 939 dual core and overclocking to the extreme.

How about an opteron 165? They're dual core and, if you can find them, can be had new for about £60 plus delivery. I've heard of them being clocked to 3GHz but it's a tall order: the standard clock is 1.8GHz. RAM would almost certainly have to be run asyncronously to get that kind of speed.

For the amount you'd spend on it, I don't think it's worth the cost or effort. I sold my year old 939 X2 4600+ and it paid for an AM2 5000+ black edition plus some RAM (I upgraded to AM2 via a daughterboard - otherwise would have gone Intel).

Anyway - I'm assuming your custum case will take a standard ATX board? What's to stop you swapping out your current motherboard etc for something better?

if you wish to stay 939 then look out for opterons 170 175 180 and 185
Most of which clock to 3 Ghz or more.
these are all dual core version's
