Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

a lot more expensive compared to go etc unless you have batteries to trickle the required kWh I think

Day rate:

35.06p / kWh

Cosy rate (04:00 - 07:00 & 13:00 - 16:00):

21.03p / kWh

Peak rate (16:00 - 19:00):

56.09p / kWh

Standing charge:

37.29p / day

4.9kw today for me. As I have foxes I need to play with HA to export the data to SolarPV. My east facing panels are just missing out on the sun before it goes to the west side panels. Can’t wait to see how we do in spring

I think people are forgetting if your switching to a ASHP and replacing gas your more than likely into the 50+ units a day, possible even close to 100
When the ASHP is running its probably going to be using 4-8KWH to heat the house and water in those windows
I would expect them to use probably 80% of their units in those windows, plus of course the 13-16 window is damn convenient for many to do the dishwasher and washing machine etc
Hell even cook the main meal

When you look at it like that you should see that the average will be lower than the standard rate.

Also if you have home batteries you have two charging windows, and one is exactly prior to your expensive period, 16-19 so you should in reality do most of that on 21p units as well
I would be very surprised if anyone installing ASHP wasn't already a solar convert

Who would have doubted it, no-one I bet! :D

Have you got a time to pay back count down display on your HA setup?
I need to do a bit of work as I've got various monitors - I've got my initial outlay and then the saving per day, week , month on electricity. I haven't done the saving on water heating yet - need to think about that.

Then for full ROI I've taken my three year average mileage in the old diesel car and I'm separately tracking the energy charging of the Tesla (ie how much solar and how much cheap rate) to offset against the equivalent diesel cost.

I have to say, I'm only three months in (and probably the worst months to start, but I'm smashing my estimates).

If it carried on like this, my ROI would be about four years (obviously helped also by the stratospheric energy rises)

Does solar panels work well when it's so cold as it is now but blue sky sun light?

Temperature is not much of a factor. Its 9am ours is producing 704w thats more than we are currently using in Electricity with 2 people working from home. So yep its working well and its not even doing much.

My use of the Saving Session system seems to be working well, had a session on Monday that earnt me over a tenner, plus about 7 quid in grid export as the export prices were so high! Did have to charge the battery from the grid beforehand though as solar was poor, but still, guess that would have cost about £2.50 at most. Almost feel guilty, but figure I wouldn't be doing it if they'd actually get round to getting my Economy 7 tariff going!

Yes. But as the sun is low in the sky they won't be generating as much as if the sun is overhead. You're also much more likely to get shading while the sun is this low.
The angle of the sun is the biggest single factor.

We absolutely know that it is a case of the colder the better.

Look at this when it was getting hotter every day in August. Our highest output this year was on June 14th when we generated 87.7kw. The really hot weather lost us about 10% of the potential output of a sunny but much cooler day than August 12/13th
