Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

Some of my solar kit arrived today, which is being installed next week
  • 10 kWh battery
  • 5kw hybrid inverter
  • MyEnergi Eddi diverter and Harvi
The panels (14x 400) and optimiser are delayed until the end of the month.
How much are you paying?
I’ve been contemplating an Eddi but have been getting paid more to export on agile than gas costs, until today when unit prices are ~£0 during my peak exporting hours of 12-4!

Yes if i was going solar panel i would get a battery hands down.

Has anyone built a summerhouse outter buulding at the back of their garden and put solar panels on the roof of that to help power up whatever they use it for such as a office and/or gaming place?
Yes, that's where panels are going - 12 on the flat roof garage and 6 on the garden Room gym

Currenntly sat out in the sunshine with the cricket on, have my 100watt panel running the bluetti with the skyq and tv plugged in. Got the second 100watt flexi panel on the fence running the smaller swarey power pack for the ipad and phone, also charging the worx batteries for the impact drill………not a single watt from the grid will be used while i work outside today

my mrs is inside using her ipad with an extension from the bluetti going through the wall keeping her ipad charged at the same time……

You can self install, but there are complications, the electrical work should be done by a competent electrician and should be signed off to part P standards, this can be by an electrician or in some case you can get you're local council to check and sign off. It is notifiable work.

If the installer is not MCS Certified you won't get paid for any exports, you get peanuts for exports at the moment but this could change in the future.

It looks like I'll be going down the self install route.

I actually do know someone who is an electrician so i may ask him if he is familiar with solar panel installations

Even if you got an MCS company in to install a small system, with a suitably sized inverter you could quite easily add to it yourself and still be able to feed in.

Also worth noting that the VAT is reclaimed by the installer and then not billed to you, not by equipment suppliers who will charge you VAT. Self-install may save you less than you think as a result.

Just follow the standards book on the MCS website its basically a how-to guide.

Ooh I've got to make the call on whether to go with Octopus Agile or Go in the next week or two, can't work out how to decide!!!

18 X 400w panels - 7.2kw
19kwh of batteries
Eddi also built in

Go feels like the safer option with energy prices, but welcome any thoughts!

Who did you go with in the end?

Lucky you katie!

I cant export above 3.6kW so limits your choices, also do not have access to these flexible suppliers which would be nice.

Thanks for that.

I think I will go for the larger battery...I have also asked them to pride me for 2x5.2kwh batteries as a comparison.

So far price is £9522 for 6,370kwh system, 5kwh GivEnergy inverter and 8.2kwh battery.

£8755 with a 5.2kwh battery.
Hi, if you would kindly let me know which company you used that would be of great help. I am looking for similar system. A 6kW system (15x395QCell), 6kW hybrid Solis inverter, 15 Tigo optimisers, 2 PureDrive battery storage to store 10kW plus a solar iBoost. The lowest quote I have received is 12.3K. Thank you for your help.

Basically my system I paid £9,900 for this which was installed a week ago:

15 x Hyundai 410w Solar Panel + 15 Tigo Optimiser
LUX 5kw Hybrid Inverter + 7.2kw Battery [2x Pylontech US3000C]

Mine was over 4 roof aspects so not a simple install. Installed by FloEnergy. I’m in South Bucks. Would be glad to refer you as they’ll give us both a discount.
I think Iboost is a waste of money while gas is cheaper than export electricity.
