Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

Had my solar install Friday of the Jubilee, a 6.2kw system 16 390w panels on east and west facing roof, and then typically it rains for a couple of days.

But so far while not the best been generating at least 1kw during the day when the sun was not out which is more than enough to cancel out my day usage of background stuff, so looking forward to seeing what full sun for a while can do.

Will do battery storage but later down the line.

Yea that's what we are doing, getting a battery later when you have some statistics and can run the maths accurately.
Also there is a silly long lead time on good battery storage at the moment, but will run the system for a year and then look how much storage would need vs how much could realistically fill up with solar.

I decided to go with battery day 1 as if I do it later it's 20% VAT but also cost wasn't insanely more for it, so an interesting one for sure.

Delaying it was also an option but I guess you're hoping battery prices don't go up in the next year!

True about prices to be fair, the way our roof is, kinda South east facing, I have a garage roof (attached garage) which is more west of South West, but could get a couple of panels on that and would catch the afternoon sun, I would have thought that would then count as a "solar install" and get a battery donevatvtbe same time.

Possibly but may depend on things like does adding more panels add costs for DNO and things like additional scaffold, I guess most installers will have some basic costs you gotta pay to even get them to come out as well.

Been independent from the grid pretty much continuously since April 21st, would’ve been sooner but didn’t change my schedule soon enough.

Just get it done whether the maths work out or not, I get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing I’m not paying energy companies anything, especially at the prices they are currently charging.

Apart from the ridiculous standing charges!

Pity the export tariff isnt challenged so that solar producers can offset this or better still pay a reasonable unit price if you missed out on the old FIT. If suppliers are commanding >30p a unit then new installs getting 5p is laughable.

Except the standing charges :p

It's worth getting at least 2-3 quotes in, but I'm going with https://www.solarpowerful.co.uk as is @SoliD

Install scheduled for about 6 weeks away so can't speak for the end product yet, but pricing was keen on the kit.

Solar Powerful never returned my quote :( Luke was very hard to get hold of, when he came for the site visit he said he had 40 quotes to prepare that morning alone.

Yup I think that's true, not easy to get hold of solar people at the moment! demand must be soaring.

These guys were pretty quick at getting me a full quote but it was a little more cash for the same thing I got from Solar Powerful - https://www.glowgreensolar.co.uk

Guy called me up after I put my details in and did a remote survey, had a quote in my inbox same day. Good to gauge rough pricing/ideas for what you want at least.

Seem to be a national supplier though rather than local.
