Sold the F-Type V8S - Replaced with something subtle ;)

I'm so very sorry if I missed that. I normally respond to your emails as you know but I don't recall seeing this one. I was dealing with a pretty major family emergency in November but that's no excuse. If you're out this way again for any reason I'll take you out for dinner :)

That's ok buddy , I will drop you a mail at some point soon , We kept driving past Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center and was wondering if this was the place lol

I like it. If I was able to buy a Ferrari, it would be rosso red with the cream interior.

Indeed, rosso corsa and tan/cream are beautiful. That's actually what I was looking for but in coupe form. I came across this by chance as I was driving up to Audi Orlando and in the flesh it's stunning. I was also amazed I'd found a manual so that was definitely in its favour.

If you bought an R8, you'd probably would have sold it in less than a month.

So in short you wanted something more agile with more feel which was not numb, so why not just take the wifes Boxster out? :p ;)

I've had a hankering for an R8 for some time but you're probably right!

We sold the Boxster right before I got the F-Type, replaced it with a 2014 Audi S5 (wife needed practicality).

Gibbo whats wrong with the R8?

Would I be crazy to be considering a 6 speed V10 coupe as an "upgrade" from the GTR next year?
Bearing in mind I like the GTR and don't want something that will kick my ass but wouldn't mind something European that makes a nice sound.

I haven't driven one yet myself and only sat in one for a bit at the dealership while waiting for my brother (he has an RS3).

Sorry for a bit off topic!

R8's are lovely cars and I'd strongly consider a V10 6MT. They're starting to date a little inside I think but they look and sound sensational. You'll find them very comfortable and quite roomy inside with significantly improved quality over the GT-R.

They are kinda similar to the GT-R though in the sense that they are very easy to drive quickly. I'd say having driven a few that they're perhaps a little more involving but they don't feel as fast as even a stock GT-R, largely due to the lack of turbos.

As Gibbo says, this budget buys you a lot of car. I'd look around and try a few. You may find a nice F430 or Gallardo if you look towards the upper end of the R8 budget.

I would have held out for a rosso red/cream leather with a manual box tbh. The yellow stands out, but the tan leather just doesn't seem to fit with it. It's a unique combo but I guess that goes in it's favour as it's out of the ordinary. Great car though. Ever looked at getting a SL65 AMG?

I'll clarify a bit for you all as I can see how the two posts can be taken as opposites yet in reality they're not quite that far adrift.

The F-Type is a heavy car, we all know that. What I will say, is that it hides its weight very well and handles exceptionally. To those of you that have driven a Ferrari or similar, you'll understand how a good handling car can not always be quite as interesting, lively or fun as something like the F430.

My quote about the lack of character is just that and I would've never denied that from the get-go. In fact, that was one of the major reasons I was struggling with the F-Type decision when I bought it, coming from the Aston Martin.

Overall, my opinion on the F-Type hasn't changed at all. I will say from having put 4k miles on it that its weight, while hidden well and combined with the steering, tends itself to a bit of a numb drive. I wanted something a little more exciting to drive and a 430 spider definitely fits that bill. I liked the interior on the F-Type too but as I mentioned in my decision thread, it's nowhere near the quality of the Aston Martin, they did cheap out in a few places.

Basically, I enjoyed the F-Type, I'd probably have another one sometime but I was ready to move on. I was actually going to buy an Audi R8 instead but we stopped by the Ferrari dealer on the way - you can see what happened!

Dude - I've never driven the F Type or the Ferrari. I do like the looks of them both though and from what I've heard the Jags exhausts noise is just sexual :o

The only other thing I have to add is:

You're going to need another siggy now bud :D

I could've been waiting forever for one of those. I did very well on this car as well, bought it $15-20k behind market value and it actually has one of the highest stickers of any US 430 spider manual cars.

I'm not a huge fan of the big Mercedes unfortunately. Looked at an SL65 AMG Black Series with 800+ hp but I just don't see the value in them. Lovely cars to look at and drive but I just don't find them special enough. That and my wife likes to refer to AMG as "All Money Gone".

I certainly do, the right half at least.

No brainer if you got it behind market value. Good purchase.

Ferrari 430 in yellow with a manual box. You sir are a hero!

For me the best looking Ferrari they have done for a while (Enzo might just shade it).

Little confusing as when you posted about the Jag originally, you claimed it was really good and didn't feel heavy at all

Now it's heavy, boring and poor quality.

That's what people like Iceman are like. Whatever they have is the best ever, until they change it for something else, then what they had is suddenly not the best, instead what they have right now is the best.

It's why they do keep swapping or changing, an endless search for perfection that will never come to a close. Cue endless misery.

Uh no, not at all, maybe you should read the posts I've put on this page?

I've never said once that the cars I no longer have are bad, I even offered to list faults/flaws in the new one. There is no perfect car and thankfully that's likely to never happen.

No car I've owned is bad, in fact, the only car I've ever been utterly underwhelmed by is the E92 M3.

Lol at the guy who said 'I don't like ferraris', ever driven one ?

Meh at yellow though, I mean... Would you drive a yellow mondeo ?, nope... And as exotic as it is it's still a yellow car :-)

Yellow is a strange colour when you think about it, would you wear a yellow jumper ?, would you paint your walls yellow ?, would you eat off yellow plates ?

Yellow should be for one thing only, custard, yes... Yellow tastes good with apple pie it looks **** on cars

Yellow sportscars = epic
Yellow daily drivers = fail

Awesome car and great choice!! Bet the sound is fantastic!!

However, be surprised if you can get out of 2nd gear living in Florida :D
Hopefully there is a track nearby.

Fantastic car :)

Residuals are actually a major consideration when buying a high end car. Some manufacturers get it right, look at the 458 for example, supply is controlled and demand is kept very high because of it. As such, residuals stay quite high.

Both Aston Martin and Jaguar play the same game in that they love to throw money at the cars to make them move off the forecourt. Case in point, AM were giving $20k incentive off MSRP to every dealer just to sell more cars. Jag are now doing the same but $10k for the F-Type. No-one wants to lose money but when you've just stumped up $110k for a car and you go to trade it in, only to be told "we're selling brand new ones for $10k off or more", it's frustrating. If it's such a hot car, it shouldn't need money thrown at it to make it move. There are 1200 F-Type's for sale now in the US whereas back in August, there were less than 2 spare cars per dealer.

Mclaren did the same thing with the MP4-12C. The Asian market fell through and they dumped all the cars into the US causing an overnight $30-50k drop in prices. Things are only just starting to recover now as for a while you could buy a brand new MP4 stickered at $270k for less than $195k. That wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that their major competitor, the Ferrari 458 is still trading at sticker price or higher for used ones!

Ah, thanks for explaining that! I guess its the same as when high end watch salesmen go on and on about how the watch is an investment and certain to double in value etc etc. Not experienced it first hand with cars though. Is it something dealers will be honest with upfront from the start or will they tell you what you want to hear and then its a crap shoot on if it'll actually turn out that way?

Appreciate the posting. Seems like some people are a little to eager to go on the attack, one can't fathom why that would be (its cuz they be mad jelly)

Thanks for the insight Gibbo and Dave, I will start my own thread when the time comes!

Wish I had time this trip to get over Orlando way and check out your motors but busy with family here in Sarasota as I am sure you are also.

Shame you can't :(

Next time you're over perhaps, would be good!

If you're in Sarasota, you should go to the Lamborghini dealership, they have a lot of Aventadors and even a 50th anniversary $600k roadster.

An interesting change, but one for the better; I can't imagine the F Type competing with this, except as comfortable daily driver.

Also, how can people not like a yellow Ferrari?! It's their official colour! Any Ferrari in yellow looks good!!

Still, you go down a random street and ask 50 people what colour they associate with Ferrari, and 49 of them will say red.

Incredible people think a Jag has more class than a Ferrari. Look closely on a Jag and you will find body panels stamped with a Ford badge.
