Sold the F-Type V8S - Replaced with something subtle ;)

Hey cheers Simon. :)

Not made a post in a while, being concentrating on trying to get the M3 spot on and fix the niggles it had so I can have a good year of track action in it, the surprise of it is I use it for my daily drive far more than I expected. I really do love SMG, as mentioned earlier, the only gearbox I feel which rivals it is the 360 F1 box, just so raw, guess the only rawer step would be a sequential box.

I still can't get along with PDK or DSG when on a drive out, they just numb the car, only SMG II and the F1 box I prefer over a manual. So for me I want a manual but with no clutch. ;)

Happy Christmas Si :)

Merry Xmas too!

Interesting points on the gear change.
The aventador in Corsa mode is pretty brutal. You'd love that, I actually left it in sport plus mode as coming out of corners in dry it was lighting up all four wheels and I didn't fancy stacking a 250k car  Lamborghini designed the feeling you describe into that box, seems they have now gone the DSG route though. Not tried SMG but would love to try a CSL out, would be my next car if I had to change.
The F 360 box is a little slow to do changes and seems to have a delay after you tell it, had that nice snap of the changes though, I drove one around Rockingham just after the M3 DCT and Z4. The DCT was miles ahead in terms of technology, just so instant and easy but not sure what it adds to the experience.

Gear change is a big part of the experience I agree, it's great getting back into the S2000 after other manual cars.

Oh and sequential is awesome. I was at an Msport event and got chance to drive a Fiesta R2 with a sequential box, unbelievable how good they are. Matthew Wilson was in the car next to me too which was cool.

Quaiffe now have a S2000 sequential box.

Well if you come to Donny next year sometime, you can have a go in the M3 as it's got the CSL's SMG firmware loaded onto it, one of the first things I did, just makes the change in S6 that bit more brutal and supposedly it changes gear in just 0.08s which I believe is 80ms, so more than twice the speed of the GTR gear change which I believe is 200ms. Like you say sometimes it's better in S5 as S6 can light the wheels up more and feels like the diff just launched out the back of car, why I love it though. :)

Will agree the F360 shifting was not as quick as the M3 SMG, but it felt nearly as raw and yep I'd probably have loved that Lamborghini :D

I drove a Clio Cup with sequential box, like you loved it. :D

I remember parking my old integra type r next to an f430 scud and thinking my car looked like a toy in comparison :(

Certainly a different/interesting colour combo.

Gibbo, I'd definitely look into the 360 if you want to have a little foray into the exotic cars. I'm a huge fan of the 360, my Dad had 5 or 6 of them and I came close to buying one myself until I found this 430. They're pretty reliable, especially if you find one with a manual gearbox. The F1 actuators can be *very* expensive if/when they go bad but you lose a lot of the painful items if you stick with a manual. Belt services aren't that bad either, add another 1250-2000 for a major service over and above the regular ones but those are only every 3 years anyway.

I will be getting more GoPro videos and I'm working on getting all the professional pictures together at the moment.

As it stands, my 430 is back at the dealer having some quite extensive and expensive work done. Thankfully it's not out of my pocket as it seems that the 5th syncrho wasn't bad after all, the whole gearbox was full of debris!

So for engine mounts, exhaust brackets, headers and a whole new gearbox, the bill comes to a whopping $32k!! :o

Cost to me - $3k, they wanted me to put a new clutch in with the new box, but wouldn't pay for that bit.

This is a blast from the past, might of been looking at F430's recently, ;) but unlike Dave my Jaguar experience has not been negative at all, infact my SVR has done nothing but exceed my expectations in every manner, its a totally fantastic car and its been totally reliable.

Picked a 4.7l V8 Vantage up last weekend from Scotland (for my uncle). Is a totally stunning car, only 22k miles, cost 45k which is a little over the odds but this was the spec wanted and low miles and only 2 previous owners. It is a manual and one I feel that with time will only gain in value, shall generally only be used on dry weekends and is kept in the garage.

Driving the 4.7l reminded me in so many ways of the Mustang, you'd not believe how similar they are and now that a new Mustang is 45k with manual or a low miles Aston warrantied used V8 Vantage 4.7 is also 45k it really would be a tough decision. I'd say both cars stock, the Aston wins, especially with fuse 22 removed, it truly sounds glorious.

Not posting pictures up on the forum, but if anyone wants to see it then there shall be plenty of photos and videos on my instagram. :)

Dave you still got the F430? I've been considering one, my sort of car, but at the same time I'd probably miss the SVR like crazy and though it may sound daft maybe my M3 can give me the rawness I need.

For me an F430 needs to classic red or black, preferably a coupe but it is one of the few cars I also think looks stunning as a Spider. :)

I have been looking and like Aston a used purchased should be kept within Aston or Ferrari network for their warranty.

I feel like going from your F Type to a 430 would feel like a bit of a downgrade, although I’m sure plenty of owners would disagree.

I was never hugely impressed with F430s - I've probably spent more time behind the wheel of them than I have in most cars I owned personally, but after the initial wow factor wore off, they felt incredibly dated and were extremely unreliable: multiple bills similar to Dave’s above. On the right road at the right time they were a lot of fun, but I'd be surprised if you didn't miss the SVR.

Missing the SVR is a guarantee, they just caught my eye simply as I always loved F430 design, end of the day its a 10yr older car, admittedly a Ferrari so maybe for the time they were a little more advanced in driving dynamics than other cars, but saying that the F1 box though good in the F430 is still rather unique just like SMG2 is in the E46 M3 though admittedly that generation of F1 box is a touch better than SMG2 but maybe with CSL SMG probably same actually.

I did do some checking and the Scud F1 box is totally different, not just a remap like E46 SMG to CSL is, in the Scud its all new hardware to drop shift time down to 65ms from 150ms.

I never tried a Scud F1 box, but the normal F1 was pretty terrible, I'm not even sure I could call it better than SMG2. Catch it at the right time and it would change pretty quickly, but at other times it'd get totally confused. Once you learn to drive around it, it's OK, but still far from ideal.

I agree that the design of the car is stunning though.

Yeah just gonna stick with the SVR I think, like I say I look at other cars, F430, V8S, V12S but they really have issues, they be great as a weekend car but not daily, where SVR is great daily, of course with Clio and M3 I can use those, then could park F430 for special occasion but think I would simply miss the SVR way too much.

Was gonna rent some exotic cars for weekends to get better idea, but think I will now just wait until next Summer and put my money into getting the M3 exactly where I want it, buying another restoration project, some jobs on SVR or maybe trade the SVR for a younger example if Jaguar do me a nice deal.

Could go 570S or GT3 as am now financially in position to do so, but think I will just settle the SVR and stick with it, as such good car and if I can get a younger exact same car or orange or one off colour then just go for that. Plus the SVR values are holding very well indeed, all above 70k stil and the blue ones sell so quick at 80k plus you got to be fast if you want one as long as they have carbon pack and wing.

Could go... GT3 as am now financially in position to do so,

Wait... take a look at the above and have a long hard think about it. Hasn't a GT3 been your dream car for quite some time now?

I appreciate the SVR is brilliant, but the GT3 (as you know) is very special.

yep just gonna get some seat time, GT3 values are not changing, if anything going down a little so no immediate rush and colder weather is coming, the SVR's speciality. :)

Gibbo, I’m not ignoring this, I’m just working a brutal 2 weeks of nights. When I get a little downtime I will give you all the info!

Hit me up on messenger if you need something urgently.

Lol at the guy who said 'I don't like ferraris', ever driven one ?

Meh at yellow though, I mean... Would you drive a yellow mondeo ?, nope... And as exotic as it is it's still a yellow car :)

Yellow is a strange colour when you think about it, would you wear a yellow jumper ?, would you paint your walls yellow ?, would you eat off yellow plates ?

Yellow should be for one thing only, custard, yes... Yellow tastes good with apple pie it looks **** on cars

Erm, I have a yellow fleece, one room has yellow walls and yes we have some yellow plates.

Oh, I also have a yellow car and I would absolutely love my Mondeo in yellow!
