Some hacker bought something on my ebay account !! WHAT!

OP, you should probably take a step back, breathe, take 10 minutes to calm down, and then approach things more rationally.

Shouting at people from PayPal is not going to help. In fact if I get shouted at I feel a lot less compelled to try and help someone.

For the love of God calm down.

Definitely

So have you actually followed the ebay process for this or not?

It is pretty simple and you are pretty much guaranteed to get your money back, unless the seller actually delivers you a Playstation.

Yes I spoke to ebay on the phone, they said they can only do two things right now:

1) Investigate this internally

2) I have to wait until the item is marked as 'dispatched' before i can submit a fraud claim on the account (for some reason)

Yet they also emailed me saying suspicious activity on my account.

I dont get it

Also emailed the seller saying i got hacked and didnt buy this, hoping they will just cancel it, but nothing yet.

Not yet - the transaction appear to be a day behind, only upto Mondays transactions are currently showing, 2 transactions should show tomorrow that I DID DO (fuel and food) and IF they paypal sale did go through that as well, however if it doesnt & I did stop my card in time, then it won't.

My next worry is if I DID stop it happening, while it would be good - I am then concerned paypal would pursue me for the money, as they still believe I bought the item at this point in time - like the would put a black mark on my credit rating for 'not paying a bill' and source it to debt collectors or something - even though again, i did not do this transaction.

Why would this have any impact on your credit rating? I really don't get why people make this assumption so often.

Even if it wasn't paying a bill, it's not a credit agreement so has absolutely nothing to do with your credit file.

You need to cancel the transaction via your bank. It's a transaction you do not recognise, get them to do something about it.

Come on, you did not get hacked. People keep telling you this and you're ignoring it.

People that fall for phishing scams or have viruses, rarely say so.

The fact that if there was a genuine exploit, it would be happening on a large scale basis rather than $200 here or there, goes over their heads.

i was listening to a report on bbc radio 4 about how many banks do not protect your money and that a huge amount of people have lost huge sums due to fraudulent activity - even people that duped staff in a bank and took out cash and the account holder didnt get it back, that has to be wrong when the bank made the error

Change all your passwords immediately, including your email and paypal password etc. Count yourself lucky it wasn't child porn or anything like that

(read a few years back about someone falling victim to the same thing but only it was more sinister purchases, the guy lost his job and house etc before he finally got acquitted for been innocent)

Not sure if sarcasm/ bad joke.

Simply, how did I apparently buy something when I was not on any of my devices........ I mean, I was not on the internet, not on my phone, pc, mac, nothing.........I get a msg on my phone i just paid for something that I had no idea I was buying.............I mean its pretty clearly not me, but it was on my account - this is the definition of fraud is it not - something happening you physically didn't do.

I've not fell for anything, as above, when I got the msg on my phone, i wasn't on my devices and also........... like im not thick, i would remember buying something!!!!! lol

What did you do last night ? Do you remember clearly if you bought a playstation, car, house ?

and they always say 'but I am so careful/clued up/the last person this should happen to' ;)

hope it all works out OP, but as a couple of others have said, and I know it's tough given your situation, but try not a get hot headed when speaking with individuals on the phone or by email, be nice, get them on your side - get them to even fell sympathy for you and they will be infinitely more likely to go out of their way to try and sort this for you,

Can you issue a chargeback on the debit account?

Ring the bank and tell them it's unauthorised and wait for them to argue it out with PayPal. Start collecting evidence and keep on the eBay/PayPal about it being unauthorised.

The point is that what you're describing isn't being "hacked". Hacking isn't that, you're just describing fraudulent activities. Someone spending your money isn't getting hacked.

Yeah that's what I will have to do.

Yes I am ranty on OCUK - I just needed to vent really as I am SO shocked this happened, distraught to be honest.

Read a ton of reviews, gone with bitdefender - well 30 day trial anyway, see how I go, removing Kaspersky now.

Ring the bank and lock your account.

Tell them you have had your details stolen and that you will come into bank to personally authorise payments from a said date, including all direct debits etc.

It will be loads of hassle with DD and salary etc but you can lock your account if you think your details have been compromised.

If the bank get funny arse tell them to cancel every single direct debit from now and every single payment made from the day you where compromised.

Make sure you have a passport handy and details then pop into another bank and open a new account the same day.

Tell bank A to screw themselves.

Start a fresh with bank B. ;)

Phone every single person who has direct debit and explain, they will be very understanding.

The is always a way, screw the banks, Ebay and Paypal! I hate them with a passion!

Thanks dude

I already locked the account last night thankfully, verified today, card wouldn't work.

My status is:

1) Paypal via email don't want to know and don't care they keep saying nothing is up with them and the transaction was legit.

2) Ebay are investigating it

3) Banks locked my card

4) Changed my PC security now.

5) Spoke to wise people - they say iv done all I can, its a waiting game on ebays investigation now.

You need to ensure that it's not going to come out of your bank account. Do not take no for an answer, they can stop it they will just insist they they can't for arbitrary reason D.

You can have the best antivirus in the world and it won't stop user error. I'd keep the money and just be more mindful of "forgot your password" or "your account needs verification" emails.

Why havent you contacted the "seller" and informed them of this? they could then process a refund?

if it was the "seller" who did all this then they simply wont post anuthing, thus you can claim no delivery and get a refund.

either way you dont loose out.
