Some quick piccys of the XR2

Anyways, a lot of people have asked me how i can downgrade from my old Turbo Rover to this.. well i can tell you one thing, i can safely say the rover handles like a boat in comparrison :)

Bigger car + more weight + heavy engine up front = boatness

Still, I'm not going to argue with what you're saying. I bet the XR2 is a bit of a pocket rocket with a nice engine.

I posted a 75 sec flat lap with a 0-64ft time half a second slower than the Evo's on the day. A pro driver in a new 9GT on the day posted a high 73.
don't get me wrong mate, i simply meant that IMHO it SHOULDN'T...not COULDN'T be treated like that.
i do, however, think there are cars more suited to be turned into track whores from that era.

nippy things they were.
cossie block you see ;) lol.

A 2001 BMW 530i is in a higher class than a 1987 Ford Fiesta 1.6 XR2 in fairness :)
and more importantly a significantly higher price bracket.

Does that mean that the 2 litre pinto-powered mkIII Transits were 'nippy things' too?
of course it does.

Penski aint you learned anything???
christ, it was only the other day we (collectively) all learned that every M10 Beemer lump is tuneable to 1000BHP/Litre or 1500BHP whichever is greater.

and i thought you knew your stuff...tsk tsk

;)

obviously.
half a days work max.

have i ever told you about the time i learned to do a "J" turn in ten minutes??

:p

Everyone knows that - floor it in reverse, crank the wheel, handbrake, into first of off.

you've done the course too?
wow.
i actually found that it was impossible to make a hash of it.
perfect everytime.

of course it was the next logical step in my driving prowess, or at least it gave me something to mull over as i was double declutching, block changing (via heel and toe of course) in sainsbury's car park.
what with having to anticipate the inevitable snap oversteer and left foot brake my way through the compulsory SIDEWAYS ACTION 111one111, i just don't know how anyone could ever fail something as wishy washy as a driving test.

If you judge a car like this on the 0-60 time, you're missing the point.

Exactly. Bearing in mind, it will be at a few track days next year and possibly the end of this year. I couldnt justify taking an £7k+ beemer around a track and i dont have a garage for a track car. Otherwise id keep the XR2 as a track car/something to keep nice and a nice big car for normal use :)

the memorys

arrrr that brings back memorys. I remember driving my dads brand new E plate XR2 and it only cost an extra £10 a month on his insurance to put me on it.(18 at the time and pass my test 6 months)
Nice car BTW :)

Just out of curiosity Fox, what spurrs you on to post in a thread that clearly doesn't interest you?

He asked for peoples opinions, I gave mine - that I think it just looks like an old Fiesta and nothing special. Thats the beauty of opinions, they can say all sorts. The thread started specifically ASKED what we thought, and thats what I thought.

It's annoying that my car then entered the thread but it wasn't me who brought it in here - I'm only too happy to spend all day defending E39's but I do think its worth noting that I don't tend to bring them up in threads like this and I did NOT say OMG LOLZ IT SUCKS HAHAHAH GET A BIG 5 LOL, either, which certain people appear to be implying.

I guess people make the assumption that every opinion I have is based on comparing the car in question to my own. This simply isn't the case, even if it may seem like that sometimes.

I post my opinion when its asked for - I always have done :)

Don't know how my car ends up in every thread even when I don't mention it but never mind. Took mine up on the winding North Yorkshire moorland roads yesterday. It was absolutely awesome and never once did I wish I was in an old Fiesta. Cornered amazingly well and then shifted on on the straights and had the power to overtake whenever there was a suitable straight ;)

Although like I said, what is my car doing in this thread anyway

51 Plate BMW 5 Series is a little different to an E Plate Fiesta XR2 though.

Its a nice example, only thing i would do is loose the pepperpots and put some 15" RS wheels on :)

Blame him. ;)

Good one.

But...all shall be revealed...waiting for a couple of points to click into place. :)

Hopefully it'll be 130bhp/800Kg when I get my mitts on it...and £500 of fiddling should get me close to 170bhp.
