SOME RYZEN 7 1700 OVERCLOCKING!

Absolutely right.

It would also reinforce how awful the VRM design is on my board. I just sold my x58 board and couldn't believe how much better the VRM cooling was. I guess ryzen at stock is very low current draw but they're selling them as overclocking boards. Meh!

This is what I found on the tomahawk, they might be ok for the 1600's and below but I wouldn't recommend overclocking an 8 core on it.

So your current Gaming 5 is meh for vrms?

The VRMs are decent, the cooling is poor. I get that AIOs don't give enough airflow but they're a fact of life now. One of the VRM sinks is covered in a massive plastic shroud. Not great.

I can keep mine down to 80 if I ramp my top exhaust fans up. Without doing that I saw 107 at one point under prime.

Thanks :) Guess if i go ryzen it will have to be one of the flagship boards then

Oh wow, i've never seen mine near that.

Do consider it in context - gaming wise I don't see over 50. But prime95 (and I assume encoding etc.) kicks out serious heat once you're in the overclocking space.

Not sure the CHIV or Taichi are better...
