Something's different...

Did they come with a turbo in JDM ? I wouldnt mind one of these :)

In Japan they were mainly NA 1.6 however there was an official 1.6 turbo model over there (for the Mk1, don't know about later editions). Have seen a few 1.8 NA jap models but they seem to be less common.

there were limited runs of factor turbos throughout the world, however they weren't as powerful as the aftermarket solutions due to mazda's very concervative nature when it comes to pushing the engine (they even strengthened the internals on the turbo ones and ran really low boost)

hrmm, get a turbo one and then maybe fit a bigger turbo nicked off a 200sx or some car secondhand :D
Unless it could be done with a crowbar I would have to pay someone else to do it of course but I can dream right

Some of it is a bit bespoke, most of the kit comes from "flyin' miata" from the States (nice and cheap - well until they tax you here :() There are some specifically designed parts like the exhaust manifold, the downpipe and the air intake setup for example as well as a few other bits and pieces. However it uses a garett turbo, trackdog racing intercooler and a few other "standard" bits. Though obviously a lot of the bits are specifically designed around the mx5 :)

The CR doesn't need to be lowered - for a start you need new pistons, and the internals are good for 250bhp without any extra work on them.

As for getting it Dyno'ed I'm not sure if the guy who's doing the ecu tuning will or not. As for estimated power - I'm hoping around 190, which would relate to around 170 lbft - which is a significant improvement on the standard 130 lbft it has, it's just an estimate using my crude mathematics :p

The car weighs (without me in it) around 1047kg.

any reason for the GT28? seems a bit overkill for the power you are looking at running and a smaller turbo would be more responsive. :)

Truthfully: it was recommended to me. And from what I have read on it, it seemed reliable and trustworthy. Furthermore, in due course I probably will increase the performance. If it ends up being too much of a PIA performance wise I can always sort it out later I guess. I haven't it found too laggy - it seems to get up to speed by 3.5k rpm - but we'll see when it's back from the tuners! :p

Ah, 200+ bhp. It's a great club Will. ;)

Nice upgrade. The turbo and ECU upgrade will make such a difference. WG is spot on when you get turbo ...... you never look back, except at the Corsa with the park bench nailed to it's roof in your rear view. :D
