Not sure I can link to the article as I'm pretty sure there was a falling out between OCUK and the site, but here's the story....

(Not sure why but I've had to use multiple quotes to make it work :( )

Another day, another blow for Sony, as it emerged that developer of Tony Hawk's Project 8, Neversoft, would not be supporting online play in the anticipated upcoming skate-em-up.

The game, which looks stunning, is set to be multi-platform. Here is the official word from Neversoft:

"Neversoft is confident the PS3 version of the game will ship at launch in November, but it still hasn't received all of the software libraries and has no indication of how the online components will work on PS3, so it's not offering them."

It is truly remarkable how many failures Sony has managed to rack up in such a short space of time. Considering Neversoft was the first company to offer online play on the flawed Playstation 2 network service back in 2001, it really does beg the question: If Neversoft can't get online to work for Playstation 3, then who can?

Don't get too upset about missing out on some online multiplayer skating action though. Neversoft has promised that the Xbox 360 version of the game will work through the Xbox Live service. Once again proving that Microsoft's universal multiplayer service, Xbox Live is far better than Sony's: 'we let the publisher decide' bodge job. Considering how critical online play really is to the modern gaming market Sony is looking in worse and worse shape with every passing week.

Oh dear :p

To compensate they said the PS3 would have exclusive content.. to be honest.. its gonna have to be some helluva lot a good content to contend with online capabilities.

Maybe they will have some sort of 'fake online' mode where you can play with players that are actually just clever bits of code that act like real people. Playstation could copyright this new technology and give it some swangy term like 'Artificial Intelligence'. I don't think its out of the picture wih the computing power the PS3 will provide tbh.

They might be able to add the online feature as a downloadable game update once they get the info needed from Sony. I am not a big Tony Hawks fan so it doesnt really bother me ;)

Hopefully the PS3 will give the 360 some competition, as this will drive Microsoft to make the 360 even better! (if its possible :p )

The problems for PS3 do sound a tad hiped, though tbh i wont be getting a PS3 .. 1) i dont like the controller 2) Sony seem to be relying on their brand name too much from what ive recently experienced.

Well THUG didn't didnt support xbox live, along with every EA ttile but supported PS2 online. Was because MS wanted too much control. Thats all changed now but I didnt see the whole world going up in arms back then. Dont see what the problem is.
What is a concern is that this is SOE who are doing the online element of the PS3, and making Untold Legends for the PS3 are in talks with x-fire about using that in Untold Legends, not the PS3 which raises a whole lot more concerns. I would post the source but its the OPM podcast this week so can't reallly link to it lol
It seems to be pointing towards maybe an xbox live/PS2net hybrid which could be very very bad lol but as long as buddy lists extend across all games i dont really care.

JUMPURS - I think that playing console games online has become much more popular since THUG came out, and as such this is why no online in the PS3 version is a bigger deal.

This is very true.
The only upsdie is its because the network is still under development, what that development remains to be seen, but there is the slight glimmer of hope its a good sign, but i doubt it.
Also Japan apparently dont really go in for online gaming that much, especially on consoles, so it will reduce the importance in Sony's eyes **sigh**
Maybe we will get all our answers on friday but doubt it

If you listen carefully you can hear Microsoft execs laughing their asses off.

This is the worst ever hyped and failed product i have ever witnessed, from all the early overhyping and dropping of specs/features, then the price, then the delays, then the shortages and the fact that even developers are not sure whats going on.

Congratulations Microsoft you were slammed when you appeared with the underrated Xbox and youve totally pioneered console gaming in several ways...

Wooing developers for exclusives and / or exclusive content

Sony wants you to buy music and movies via its online service, thats great aint it, have Sony ever heard of the internet.
They certainly seem to be in a real mess or so it seems apart from the brain washing in that we all need Blu Ray, right?

If cell is all it's cracked up to be, you won't need to play against other people, if it's to be believed, it's so powerful it can just emulate them.

The Japanese don't?
Or they don't on consoles?

From what I can remember Japan has rather a lot of online gamers (although maybe mmorpg players mainly).

Pioneered !?!?!

Most of that stuff had been on the PC for years, they just took all of it renamed it so the casual crowd wasn’t to scared of it and marketed better.

He said console gaming.

Sony market their console better to the masses than Microsoft do though, ask any normal parent or grandparent what a playstation is and they will know, most have never heard of a 'games console' yet alone an Xbox 360.

I dont see how this proves Xbox live is better than Sony's online effort (which nobody has used yet), the fact that Xbox 360 has a year headstart seems to have been overlooked. It says nothing of Sony's online service, we will have to wait before passing judgement on that.

So because they take some thing from one market and repackage it for another they have became pioneers
No, but they were the first in the console market to integrate all these features, which is a big thing as they were bringing the things we've had on our PCs easily for years, to the masses that don't have/want PCs to play games on.
