Just been using tomtom on my P990 and i have to say its the best phone based option out there, havent tried it on the WM5 devices but out of all the symbian devices i have tried this implementation seriously rocks!
What's even better is that they've taken it off the O2 website
I was told by customer service a couple of weeks ago that it would be in stock by the 23rd of this month, so maybe it's off the site temporarily. Wishful thinking I guess.
Phoned them today anyway, been put off to the 30th.
This thread is now just going to consist of me posting every Monday about the p990 being put off by a week
Yep, phoned this week and now it's been put off til 6th November. Considering I was due an upgrade in January, it'll be almost a year past and I'll be due two phones together
I'm starting to consider an alternative to the P990i, what would any of you suggest? I'm currently using an S700i and like the big screen. The 3 I am thinking of are the N73, K800i and the M600i except O2 don't seem to sell the M600i so I think that's out the window. I'm tiding towards the N73 and obviously it's not a feature-house like the p990i but it's not far behind. Would this be a good alternative for the time being?
(And no I don't want a Windows-mobile based phone)
I'm thinking the same thing after being messed about by O2. I don't really want to leave the network due to the good signal strength (Aberdeen) but their choice of phones is laughable.
Been waiting for the P990i for over a year now The delay is due to 'software incompatabilities' so I'm told , in other words they can't get their crap branding to work.
I asked about the equivalent Vario 2 , no chance Germany only , and they then asked me to consider for £159.99 for a xda mini s or the full exec was quoted at £269.99 both on a £35 p/m 12 month contract !!!!!
I borrowed a P990i from a friend and tried it for one day and it was such a disappointment. The thing is slow and sluggish as hell. Everything takes ages to get done and things are not improved at all even after upgrading firmware to the latest. SE cramped to much stuff into this phone and it really struggles.
Another major blow is battery life, I fiddled with it for about 45 mins and half the bar gone. People on allaboutsymbian.com have reported battery actually lasts about 10 hours which is unacceptable.
If you are a newbie to P series then you may find it pleasure to use but for current P900, P910i owners it's not worth upgrading at all, and definitely not worth switching from Windows Mobile devices.
I would suggest you should always try it before you buy.
Phones I used in the past: P900, P910i, XDA IIs, XDA Exec and now XDA IIi.
Well I tried O2, wanting to upgrade to an N73 (assuming it would be nice and cheap, if not free), and they're wanting £100 for it. Absolutely pathetic, considering I set my bro up on an O2 contract last week for £25 a month (£10 less than me) and he gets it for free
I've had my P990i from Orange for about a week and there are definitely a couple of major bugs thats I've found so far.
There are some major memory leaks which need to be fixed.
The worst one is when using the wireless connection to browse it lasts about 2 minutes before throwing up loads of errors and then rebooting the phone !!!
Another one thats been reported is the gui being slow....which is fixed by running the video player in the background which must activate some kind of hardware acceleration.
Thankfully it looks like these problems are just software related so can be fixed by firmware upgrades but its worrying that the phone was released in this state to begin with because these faults are so obvious.
