*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

When it comes to res, you'll not be able to tell in all honesty. It'll make you realise how fruitless the race to ultra high pixel counts is.

Oh yeah I'm not super bothered but sometimes after looking at the old monitors at work for a long time I look at my phone and it's being able see as deep as the hubble :D

Is 2gb plenty enough for the system? My S6 regulalry hovers close to 2gb in use. Is it a case of if it has it, it'll fill it and recycle space or will I hit 2gb and see slow down?

That's a far point but its down to what junkware is on the phone. Pure android phones that isn't a problem but I know with the Samsung Series, Touchwiz can be a killer on RAM, compared to something like the Nexus series.

Hopefully the Z5 will come with minimal junkware.

My Z3 has plenty of free ram so the z5 should also be fine?

2/3GB ram wouldn't bother me.

The only reason i'm going for the standard Z5 is because i'll be using it mostly with my PS4 so the SLIGHTLY bigger screen would be better.

Will be going back to the Z series from my current S6. Z2 was awesome for me, but I had the gadget itch for something new, but Z2 was certainly the best all round phone i've ever had. Looking forward to this one.

I'd be dubious over how much of an upgrade a Z5 will be over an S6 - screen, camera and CPU are all downgrades (based on not retail leaks etc)but there's no denying a "closer to stock" android scores points.

Yeah good points - touchwiz is still too much for my liking too. Don't understand why Samsung don't just offer a "close to stock" option and get rid of their horrific colour schemes.

It's about identity. Samsung have been trying this and that to distance themselves from Google, even going as far as to spin off their own OS, but the best medium they've come up with is to give their software a unique look.

It just so happens their design department really have no idea what their users (the western users anyway) actually want.

The best medium has always been "close to stock" - Look at Moto and Sony. They are generally well received by users because of that minimalist "just breathed on" feel. You can differentiate your brand while still sticking close to stock.

Samsung don't understand this notion at all.

Completely agree. I had to use an S5 yesterday and I was totally lost trying to do the easiest of things. The problem is Samsung got into the market early and strongly and as a result built up an enormous user-base (I guess particularly with the GS2), so as long as no other Android-based phone manufacturer puts such effort into promoting their phones and actively show the benefits they bring then they are going to struggle against Samsung. Product placement isn't enough.

You have to think Samsung's user-base will gradually slip away, diluted by other manufacturers, especially as the Chinese market takes hold, but us techheads aren't going to be the ones driving it.

And let's face it, even the new Moto and Z ranges have serious flaws too. Neither offer wireless charging, the Moto is missing a fingerprint reader and the camera seems it still isn't up there and the Zs have those humongous bezels heading both north and south and the lowlight performance doesn't appear as strong as the Samsung's. The Nexus 2015 range both look butt-ugly and will have weak cameras, but otherwise look ideal.

We say it year after year, but why is it so hard to make an excellent all-rounder?
