*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

I just got the Z5 back out to test the overheating. Managed to do it easily. Try 60fps 4K with stabilization and centre weighted metering. Here's a vid I did:

And here's a photo from yesterday, shot and edited on the Z5. The shadow detail in the rock and the face from the guy on the left has been lifted a lot.

Lol, 60fps 4k recording with image stabilisation and focused metering would make my gaming PC sweat never mind a phone!

It blows my mind that a phone can even attempt it. It's 4x hd!

I'd be tempted to slum it and reserve 60fps for peasants hd. A bit of realist thinking maybe needed. We're a couple of process node shrinks away from that being mainstream on a phone I'd say.

Why allow the combo if the phone can't handle it? I thought the phone was aimed at people who want the best quality and like to have more control over the output like myself and many others in the photo/video industry. Sony say their quality is the best and it's all flagship etc but when you go to use it, you can't.

I also have my suspicions that because the phone does seem to get quite toasty, next summer when I'm using it for GPS navigation on the car dashboard it's going to pop up overheating messages all the time. Might not happen but it does get warm after navigation with Waze and this is in October.

They all get a bit warm when stressed, the s6 I had did.

When you enable 4k at 60fps you need to think that you'll get a few minutes at best. It should do 4k 30fps or 1080p 60fps no problem though, have you tried that? My z5c did 10 minutes at 4k 30fps and it got a little bit warmer, nothing out of the ordinary.

The processing power needed to do 4k 60fps is massive, most 4k tvs on the market can't even handle it and they aren't recording anything and have the benefit of 240v and 13 amps if needed! Like I said, we aren't the Star Trek generation, 4k is new, we've a few years before its normal and can be processed easily.

Just checked pictures I have taken today, mine appear a little softer at the edges but that's to be expected on a small lense with a reasonably wide aperture, a lot of digital cameras have that problem.

Could somebody link it to their PS4 and play some games via the Z5 and remote play please.

This ability is 80~ of the reason i'm switching to the Z5, but I don't want it to overheat and not be able to actually game!

It won't overheat under remote play. It doesn't get hot under normal use.

Have you had a refund?

Yeah, they couldn't really refuse a refund when it happened right there and then, as well as the photos of the messages happening on the phone that the camera was shutting down due to overheating that I took in for them.

Regarding stock, CPW in Cardiff all have quite a bit in if anyone is looking but I can't recommend it based on what I've found.

Back to the trusty Nexus 6 yet again.

Did yours overheat doing 4k 30fps or 60fps?

Apple still leading the way for phone cameras it seems...Well until there is some reviews of the Nexus camera's
Not really no. The Samsung S6 is I per there with the best if them. Even better in some respects like Audi quality and photos with a bit more pop.

Does this phone really do 4k60?

Just noticed TCB are doing 17.85% for Bespoke offers purchases combine that with Bespoke Offers beat my price, which can get the Z5 price down to £534.98. You could snag a Z5 for around £440.

Using Amazon Z5 link on beat my price - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Xperia-Z5-SIM-Free-Smartphone-Black/dp/B014P22LN2

http://www.topcashback.co.uk/barclaycard-bespoke-offers/

Ends tonight though.

I got the Z5c down to £410 when I submitted it last week.

Had my prices but it's trying to make me use 'Fireworks Merchant Ltd'. Never heard of them and not willing to risk it in case I want to return it

They should have limited it to 4k60 for say....2 minutes as a 'new feature' to prevent the overheating and bad press this will cause.

I honestly don't know anyone other than you guys who would be bothered about 4k60fps!

The blur on the left must be a camera hardware issue??

You know what, just checked, you are right, I'm not sure what's going on in here now..

It does 1080p 60fps which is a huge feat in itself, 4k is at 30.

Hah was confused there for a second. Yeah the Z3 etc do 1080 at 60fps, it's the mode I use 99% of the time and never had overheat warnings. Only in 4K do I get a warning after a few minutes.

It's common for small lenses with a wide aperture to be softer at the edges, I've got a 700 quid lense for my dslr that is when wide open.

Same, I have a wide angle for my DSLR and it's a fair bit softer at the edges as to be expected. This is softer on the left than it should be, and much sharper on the right edge. Also, after your comments above I've just noticed I didn't change the settings from Full HD 1080 60fps in my video, so the phone is overheating and not even on 4K.

Might be an alignment issue maybe? I'll do some testing with mine tomorrow.
