*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

Had it when using the camera for a couple of minutes in manual mode and then taking a 3 minute 4k video. Took it back to CPW this afternoon and they asked me to show them the problem, happened again within 3 minutes of just using the camera. They tried it on another Z5 and same thing. This is with absolutely nothing else running on the phone.

Nope, not on mine, not sure where CPW would get a spare z5 from either. Stock of new phones is treated like gold dust.

Funny how none of the reviews mentioned it either...

Taking mine back. Always loved my mates Sony Z4 for the build quality and design plus the camera etc too. Having bought a Z5 yesterday, I find it glitchy and seems to have some bugs. For a premium device I'm not prepared to give a company my money for an unfinished product.

The phone overheats in a few minutes using 4K video indoors in the UK ( must be about 17 degrees in here ). The battery drains faster than my Nexus 5 too which is saying something.

It constantly plays a sound when it loses wifi?/mobile connection (very irritating when a bit further out of town and it's happening every few minutes) to the point it became an on-running joke amongst my friends. You can't turn this off either. I might be able to put it in vibrate but I do need to hear incoming calls...

Being a photographer I was excited to be FINALLY replacing my crappy Nexus 5 camera but I'm underwhelmed. It's much better than the N5 but the quality isn't fantastic from what I've seen. Also, no RAW capture and can only use 23mp setting in the Sony camera app. The hardware button does quicklaunch the camera, but sets it to Auto mode rather than my last used settings.

There also seems to be some post processing with the shadows to lift them, I don't want the camera to do this but there doesn't seem to be any way to turn it off.

If Sony put stock Android 6 on it and sorted out the bugs then it would be a great phone but as it stands it's not for me.

Overall, I'm happy to be back to my N5 and look forward to the 5X, plus saves me some cash.

I'm sure there will be tons of happy customers for the Z5 if their needs don't conflict with the weak areas of the Z5.

Have you had a refund?

One other thing: If you enable the tap to wake function and put the phone in your pocket with the screen facing your leg, it will eventually open the phone pad and start dialing a bunch of numbers making you sound like a call center as you walk along.

This doesn't happen with my wife's LG G3 that I'm aware of, I'd have to test it but I doubt it's a common thing with other phones?

I think it's the phone network more than wifi, I climb so was in Portland yesterday which is a bit further out so reception is sketchy.

Nope, you using the BT wi fi app? That pings when it connects if I remember right.

RAW is coming in November and the Sony camera app has manual mode so photographers can can tweak the usual settings. Had a play today and getting some decent shots.

Just filmed 10 mins of 4k to check on the z5c and the unit barely gets warm, about the same as my S6. That was inside with heating set at 20c.

Not sure why you'd use tap to wake with the fingerprint scanner being where it is and pretty much instant but that would be easy to test, put some cloth over your finger and see if the press registers. If you are using tap to wake, make sure the phone is set to instantly sleep when power button is pressed.

I'm not using the BT wifi app, and I played with the manual mode but there's (for my needs) excessive post-processing going on to the image when it's rendering the jpeg. If I expose for the highlights, the photo still comes out way too bright in the shadows even at -3 stops.

The phone is back in the box so I can't test on other settings but from memory I had stabilization enabled, 4K and it was in manual for the overheating video. Got a warning after about 2 mins and then it stopped after about 3 mins recording.

God knows what that pinging is then, it's not what you think it is?

Was the phone in a case maybe that's not helping with the heating?

Not really had exposure issues as of yet either. None that I wouldn't expect from a phone camera anyways. The raw thing I'm surprised that you didn't know about, it's not a priority for most manufacturers as most people just want to take selfies or pictures of the kids to whack on Facebook. If I want raw I get the dslr out that most who mess with raw will have anyway.

No case, I did a Google and found another Z5 owner with the same issue for the dropped network sound. I was surprised there weren't more people out there. I thought that it might have something to do with me not using any of Sony's services & bloat (skip, skip, skip etc) and using the Google Now launcher too. I haven't tested this as the other issues are enough to send it back, the irritating pinging was just another thing. I couldn't work it out for a few hours as there are no notifications, eventually it was doing its noise and I noticed the network strength had dropped to 0 at the same time. Tested a few times to confirm.

Had a few Sony phones, none have pinged to when losing signal under any circumstances, ever.

They'd have to be crazy to make that a standard feature it would drive everyone crazy!

I guess the RAW thing is my own fault, the N5 has RAW and I wrongly assumed that a top end premium phone, especially Sony with their sensor tech and camera background would have RAW supported. My fault for not looking in to this but good to hear the RAW support is coming. I don't take my SLRs out with me as they're way too bulky, my N5 is ok but a better mobile camera with RAW would be perfect for B&W conversions etc.

I can't before that they've not implemented RAW as the api is there. Maybe holding it back just for the Premium.

I just got the Z5 back out to test the overheating. Managed to do it easily. Try 60fps 4K Full HD 1080 60fps with stabilization and centre weighted metering. Here's a vid I did:

And here's a photo from yesterday, shot and edited on the Z5. The shadow detail in the rock and the face from the guy on the left has been lifted a lot.
