*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

My Z5 turned up today and so far I'm liking it. Its a nice upgrade from my Z1, which has been pretty flawless for the past 2 years.

Thought I'd give 4k recording a try to see how it fairs up. Stuck it in my car mount in my work van and set it away recording on my drive home. Image stabilisation was off but managed 14mins + without any overheating warnings and the phone was only warm when I stopped it due to getting home. Will try it more over the next days, but so far I have no problem with it :)

I've managed 15 mins today recording 4k.

Sounds like there's differences in build quality between units. Maybe a QC issue at some factory or something, could be something as simple as the thermal paste on the heat pipes is too thick or not enough.. Hopefully Sony will sort it and after a few minor software updates it will be killer. Shame I got such a dud.

Was that with the Intelligent active mode stabilisation or w/e its called on?

I was reading a Chinese article and If I understood correctly, they seem to be able to record 4K longer without it on. They suspect it may be the culprit in the overheating saga, thats If Google translator hasn't messed up the article.

@Mint_Sauce can you see if it makes a difference with it off?

Mine is back at CPW now so unable to test but I do suspect the stabilization adds to the heat.

Looks like I'll need help on the battery life. True I've been setting stuff up and downloading updates. But for about 10 mins use I'm already down 5%. Maybe had my hopes up a tad too high haha. Didn't think I'd notice it ever going down.

well it managed about 7 and a half mins with stabalising on before it closed the app i am inside and my thermometer says its 23 degc in here. it did warn me before i started recording that it my close if it gets too hot.

i do still have the back plastic on which wont help with heat dispersal.

I think the longest i recorded 4k previously on my old phone was about a minute so this doesn't really bother me.

How long can you get with it off?

Under similar conditions if possible.

Since some sites are suggesting the stabilisation is causing the device to hear up faster

Btekt has got hold of both the Z5 and Z5C. His reviews are generally spot on and unbiased
He called out Sony for the mess that is the Z3+ and I'm waiting with a great deal of interest for his opinion.

I am over 15 minutes now and no warning or app shutdown! so looks like its the image stabalisation.

Three STILL don't seem to be advertising these on their website - screw them i'm moving to either EE or 02!

How easy is it to keep my number if I swap, do I:

1 - Order my phone/contract via CPW
2 - Contact Three for my 'code'
3 - Ring EE/02 and give them my 'code' from Three
4 - Cancel contract with Three?
