*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

I get my Z5 on Monday!

I've stayed with Three and the contract is unlimited text/minutes and 4GB data for £37.

What do you think of the deal? I'm happy with it.

Anybody using the Style Cover Window SCR42 official case for this? Is it worth the £30 retail price?

I have the SCR46 on my Z5 Premium, and it is a very nice case, and I believe the SCR42 is the same, simply for the regular Z5.
NFC pairs to phone, and the window features are nice. Case offers secure, but easy access fit and protects the phone well....all without compromising usage, for me.

On contract deal, I am not too sure, but if you are happy then that is what counts! Personally, I tend to buy handsets sim-free, as have a nice 3 Sim from years back on One Plan which I am paying £15/month for......that said, I actually got the Z5 Premium on an O2 deal @ £27.50/month with £75 upfront, and got £10 off the upfront, making £725 over term = £125 over £600 handset price, over 2yrs, and have used said O2 SIM in eldest daughters PAYG handset......after, naturally, setting up O2 Priority et al on my Z5 Premium, before whipping my 3 SIM in :D

Interestingly, whilst mooching around Xperia Lounge (Gold) the other evening, I landed a £50 Google Play credit - apparently some promotion on the phone?! Anyone else seen this?

I am So tempted by this phone. I am using a trusty lumia 920 and now ive got wp10 on it it's really rather good, sort have been holding out to see if wp made a android compatibility option for their apps but recently heard that's a no go. Now microsoft have the 950's it's got me in hope for more apps but deep down I know I'll be disappointed by the lack of apps(that I've been able to manage without for 3yrs whilst using this 920), still the os and hardware is great and I'm gutted they probably won't turn it about. So, a sim free z5 it is then.. My all time fav for 'fit in the hand' has to be the ip4, what a great size and shape!

I've not really been following this thread for a while but what is the situation with the camera now, do people still get the blur to the left or was it possible to rectify this with a software update, if not does it affect everyone or just some devices?

Some claim its a software issue buts clearly not.
Its a lottery to see If you get one it seems, judging by threads on XDA

Apparently its been recognised as a fault according to this alleged internal info

I'm in the same boat, only had my z2 since early this year but my upgrade is due next week (24 month contract but the wife dropped my nexus 5 so I got the z2)

Really like the z2 but a new phone is always nice :)

fellas

I'm thinking of selling my 2 month old Z3 to buy this - I saw it in the shop and I love the look and feel of it (matt grey is my favourite).

If I sell the Z3 I'm probably looking at about 100 loss and then another 200 or so for the Z5.

Do you think it's worth it?

I'd say it probably is worth it but be prepared to experience some software bugs that you wouldn't ever see from a larger manufacturer.

It's doubtful it will get updates very quickly either.

I can't help but think the Nexus 5 2013 is still a good option, with it having essentially identical hardware to the OPX.

in think it is worth it. for starters the camera mp is higher so better quality pics.

Which are these fabled manufacturers that don't have bugs you speak of?

Personally I couldn't see the advantage of upgrading to the Z5 from the Z3, now especially since the Z3 has Marshmallow Concept. The camera is better, and it has a fingerprint sensor, but that's it. everything else looked and felt the same inside the handset. They're both the same size and weight as well and use the same screen. The battery life on the Z3 is better than the Z5 of course, so worth keeping that in mind.

It's too close to Feb time now before the Z6 is announced, so it probably would not be wise IMO to change now anyway.

As for the other manufacturer's having no bugs vs Sony, lol? Sony are one of the few with the least bugs on an official release due to how they take input from the community from the beta program and open source channels they contribute to.

Been to have a play with the Z5 today and comparing it to the Z2 I can't justify the upgrade, until the Z2 is left behind in the update stakes I have no need for a new phone. Decided I'm going to go sim only for a period (its also £30pm cheaper) and wait until a phone takes my eye or a good offer comes up that makes an upgrade worthwhile.

Z2 isn't getting Marshmallow I believe

would love to upgrade to a Z5 (from my Z3) but i just can't bring myself to do it. In the last 6 months i have gone through 3 rears. They flex and shatter in my pocket. Being a late-30 something bloke i'm not wearing skinny jeans or anything (did one in a pair of joggers!). It's my thigh flexing against the rear (not like i'm ripped either haha).

Can't risk it as a result :(
