*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

Preordered via Handtec.
I actually can't wait to see what this bad boy can do.
The Z3 was my fav phone of 2014/15

Sod it, I just went ahead and pre-ordered the Z5 in black on EE. I was on T-Mobile before:

10GB (Double speed and EU Roaming)
Unlimited SMS and Calls
FREE Phone
£38.49 (includes the 30% F&F Discount)

Basically doubled my current monthly cost but that included taking a hit on the F&F discount as its 50% on T-Mobile... Had to come off it at some point I guess :/

Worked out that the extra £19/month comes to £456 over 24 month contract so its less than the handset alone. Also, really needed to upgrade the tired old S3 :o

The plan alone is 25.99 so you're paying 12.50 a month for the phone, 300 in total. That is pretty astonishing. Where/how do you get one of those F&F discounts?

Glad these phones are being well received - need Sony to remain in the smartphone business.
Personally I really dislike the design - honestly think they look terrible but will wait til I see one in the flesh before writing it off my list of potential upgrades.

At present I think the Z3 is the sleekest looking phone on the market. It has no physical buttons on the front, and those on the side are done tastefully and are well thought out in design.

With the screen off, the entire front is seamless in transition from panel to screen. It looks modern and will remain looking modern in another 12 months. The competition simply won't, as they have the tells that give away their design age in various ways.

I think the only other hjgh end phone that follows that kind of styling is the iPhone.

The only thing I'm bummed out about is the loss of magnetic charging contacts. I guess this means I've now got to adopt wireless charging at both home and work and go back to micro USB in the car...

Except they aren't the same, two biggest features people decide on, screen size and battery are different.
The Lenovo with a whopping 5000mah looks interesting as well.

I just saw this phone.
Whopping battery
1080p
Dual sim
Could easily be my next phone that!

Design isn't just about how nice it looks when sat on your desk at work - its also about how it feels to actually use and too me their design is 100% weighted in style over substance.
The phone may look modern in 12 months time when you're looking at it with the screen turned off but with the screen on those vertical bezels are anything but modern :p

Does the Z5 even have wireless charging? - EDIT - NOPE.

And there are a few phones with an all black button-less front. Plus no logo.

Where/how do you get one of those F&F discounts?
Employee discount - family or friend.

Ah, i thought he was getting it from somewhere on the net or through someone like mischief who gives out a lot of F&F codes for sky.

Is there someone on the forums who works for EE / can give F&F discounts? At those prices it's a no brainer...

Yeah there are a few others, but do note that I used my words very selectively. Which one of those comfortably competes with it as a general all round package? None.

I factored in usability too with my post. What is difficult about usability on it? Everything is within easy reach, just like 95% of all other flagships.

Unless you have child sized hands of course!

Edit*
I thought I read it did have wireless charging, that's a double bummer then :/

hand size is nothing to do with it (I still have my note 3) - just that phones with rounded backs feel considerably more pleasant in the hand... something I really wish Sony would employ into the phones instead of sticking with the squared off brick formula they have stuck with since forever!

I think you're pushing the excuses now Rimsy :p

The Note 3 has a curved back cover yes, but it also has a sharper edge bezel which is also groove striped. The Z3 has a curved and smooth edge lining. The Note 3 edge is in all essence sharper on the palm, but still comfortable. I had the Note 3 remember.

This is the reason I can't have one
Picked up a z3 in the shop when it came out. It was instantly very uncomfortable.
It's the corners at the back-side join that got me

I never said the Note 3 was comfortable :p - merely that i have one

I want the Z5 Premium but it doesn't sound like it will be out until late October/Early November. And I would love this phone for when I go to America on the 27th of October purely for the Camera.

So I might just buy the Z5 first and then sell it on when the Z5 Premium comes out.

I'd like the Z5 but I'm broke LOL and I find it hard to justify spending so much on a phone. Nexus may sway me.

But yeah Z5 in Gold, usually think its tacky but it looks so nice or black graphite.

Eagar to here more If Sonys camera really holds up the G4 and S6.

Although I do wish they could've slimmed the bezel down.

Fairly certain I'll be picking up a z5 to replace my z1. Quite like the teal/green but need to see it in the flesh before I choose that over the black.
