Holy moly, these camera samples are pretty impressive (scroll down for non Sony press shot samples):

Granted it's pretty much ideal conditions, but it looks very detailed without being ridiculously sharpened. You can almost make out the license plates on the cars!

HDR still only available in manual mode if I'm reading that right?

So... about a year ago Sony says there's no point in going over 1080p... but then suddenly a 4K screen ? I wonder how it looks anyway, with 1080p vs 1440p I can see a slight difference but doesn't really wow me.

I wonder what the battery life will be like on it as well...

The camera finally gets a good upgrade and looks very good so far!

It's damn right ridiculous. I love my 1440p screen but in all honesty, 1080p would be fine. They claim 2 days battery; an 810 pushing that many pixels is a very big claim indeed. Let's not forget the camera would crash/overheat in some modes on the Z3+. I hope these phones, and Sony's hugely improved update policy, give Samsung a good kick up the bum.

£525 for the Z5? Premium must be £600+ ?

Kind of expected. But I'm running a Nexus 6, so anything less than quad HD won't do for me.

To be fair Sony phones already have excellent battery life (the two day claim is actually fairly close to the truth), so if Sony are claiming two day battery life on the Z5 Premium I have some confidence that this will ring true.

Im also worried about the 810 it struggled at 1080 let alone 4k, I suspect these will be very warm units. On a plus note winter is coming so it doubles as a hand warmer.

Personally while my next phone will probably be sony I think ill wait till a decent chip comes out of SD

A reviewer did a 10mins run on the camcorder in 4k. It didn't pop up with the overheating warning.

I'm still not liking the chin and forehead on this thing. Otherwise it looks excellent, but if I were to buy this that knowledge of bezel would always niggle with me.

The Premium is definitely a contender though. Just got to wait for the Huawei Nexus 5 now.

I'm going to keep my Z3 until this has been released and some early adopters have reported back on any major issues. I love my Z3 and this is the only phone I'd consider upgrading to.

I would expect the camera software to be fully Camera2 API compliant so manual control to be present.

cant believe sony goofed themselves with that horrid colour of the mat finish, there should have been an option for black like the z5 premium. This leaves with me with either a Z3+ or Z5 premium but £600+ for a phone is just hard to justify a price for a phone and that it might not fit into my pockets.

In such a small area are 4k pixels going to really be much different to 1k pixels?

Who knows, no other phone has this new display so we'll have to wait and see. The Z5 seemingly boasts a number of industry firsts and o think it's a good thing as it will take the limelight from the usual boasters.
