*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

Only going off the videos and photos posted on the blogs so far, opinions can change of course as more details emerge, just like a scientific theory of sorts :p

But everything points to it being very promising and as I said, to hustle with the S6/G4/i6 - I never said it would beat their PQ, but it does beat them in usability, which is a no brainer given the faster and smoother AF and hardware camera button combination.

The hardware shutter button is indeed awesome and I really wish other manufacturers used it!
The videos do look really good- just not convinced the stills are quite in the same league yet but its still early days. Main thing is its a huge step up from the previous xperias!

Am I the one thats really impressed that the fingerprints in the power button lol?
Everytime I see it in a video, I just think why wasn't this thought of sooner.

Says you. I never hear anyone complaining about it among friends and family.

Using two hands with a finger free for the shutter will nearly always produce a better shot.

Nobody could ever fire off decent photo after decent photo by single-handedly holding a camera and pointing a digit at an on-screen, otherwise the tripod would have ceased to exist. The human body simply doesn't allow that much consistency.

Lol what are you bleating on about.

Of course you need 2 hands for the best possible shot. Did I say you didn't. Hardware button you'd use your finger for the shutter and software button you'd use your thumb. Both should produce a fine shot. In the end the quality of the composure will be down to the person taking the shot.

does anyone have F&F discount for EE? Been trying to get 3 new contracts signed up for the Z3/Z5 and the prices are absurd.

Fair enough. I obviously can't speak for you, but I find myself using my left hand holding the phone and the right forefinger to select the focus point and then my thumb to trigger the shutter. However given my less than steady hands (I am only human) I find myself losing focus between moving my finger from focussing to my thumb opening the shutter, which as a photographer is frustrating, whereas the basic compact position, as little as I've used it recently, would be infinitely more stable and natural.

The larger the screen is the worse I can imagine this gets, as the thumb won't quite reach all of the screen given the size of the phone, and I can only imagine the focus point and the final shot will be less reliable. Not necessarily worse in a best case scenario, but less consistent, and all I care about is consistency.

Have you not, I have. Though most people have just accepted it, but a proper button is clearly much better. I'm actually surprised most phones don't have one when you consider how much people use them for photos.

I'm not sure what you are bleating about to be fair, you admit a hardware button is better so why not have one?

Never had a problem with not having a dedicated camera button on any of my recent phones, can have a look through my photos taken on the one s and N5 and they look pretty damn good, at least imo anyway.

Also, most camera apps have a setting to use the volume button as a capture if you really want to have a physical button, I have it turned on for the google camera on my N5 but still use the on screen button.

It certainly won't be put on my list of must have features like NFC etc. anyway :p
