• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Sorry AMD :(

Probably from a consumers point of you i'd be worried too but once a company scams you for an unreasonable fee They'll lose your return custom. So it's a fine line.

When I "upgrade" its an entire rebuild, I dont just do invidual bits of hardware.... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18562500

So these 2 titans will be there for a few years to come.

It does appear your case is not soundproofed though - it might be worth considering it the next time you do a build.

I did so on my aluminium mini-ITX build which is right on the desk next to me - it did muffle a reasonable amount of any higher frequency noises I could hear.

That's low to buy a gpu and then dsr it just for a game code lol.

You can't do that, using the code voids your DSR option as DSR requires you to return the product and any extras or free gifts received along with it, this is actually mentioned in the OCUK email that contains a code.

maybe now we email it although if you've claimed it what exactly can we do about it? we can't redeem it to check if we did redeem it it would be used and still useless.

I've suggested in the past we don't issue the email till the DSR period is up.

Obviously though this was a bigger problem when we sent the codes out in the parcel.

Understood and I'm sure the dishonest traders will appear soon enough.

The right to inspect a product does not mean the right to use it for a week and change your mind. Sadly some people have taken the royal P with the dsr regs Returning GPU's because it got free games the following week. Or because they didn't get the OC they wanted from it.

I've had customers actually say to me can i have the £10 discount for the speakers i bought last week you've just put it on offer. When i say no they say they'll DSR it and buy them again. Or people buying GPU's for the games and then DSRing it and keeping/selling the codes.

I realise it's a concern for you honest consumers out there but you only have the smart asses who abused the SOGA and DSR to thank for this change which I imagine to smaller companies than ours had detrimental effects on the finances.

I'm sure when it's all sorted out on our end we will make it quite clear what it all means to you guys. Till then don't read too much into it.

I see no problem with people asking for a part discount on something they've only owned X amount of time within the DSR period. Hell, I've done the same, and would in the future, (I'd be disappointed if I was rejected tbh) that's going to get you return custom.

I don't like people abusing DSR, and myself haven't. If I get a crap clocker, I live with it (This Sapphire R9 290 I have now is shocking, but I couldn't be fussed)

I wouldn't dream of using codes and DSR'ing either, but that's different to a product getting a discount within a DSR period.

What about monitors? With dead pixel tolerance based policies, DSR was the only thing that actually allowed people to get a flawless monitor, because otherwise they're stuck with dead pixels and they're SOL.
And monitors with backlight bleed too (That's not a classified fault unless it's ridiculous), again, DSR is the only thing that allows one to get a flawless monitor as they can't RMA.

But now that means that one could have it a day or two, notice the dead pixels/backlight bleed, and then get a reduced refund.

This, only thing I have ever DSR'd was a monitor due to a stuck pixel, if this is no longer allowed under the new rules I will just buy them in store only and demand to see it working beforehand.

Do OcUK have a pixel policy in place already? IIRC they use/used de-facto standard protocol for this issue, where more than 1-2 bad pixels would be considered acceptable for a return as faulty.

That might have to be amended with caveats for high-margin panels, pixel placement etc.

I thought it had to be more than 1-2, more like 5?

OcUK's FAQ says it abides by the ISO 13406-2 standard. Wikipedia says this has been superseded by "ISO-9241-302, 303, 305, 307:2008 pixel defects"

This newer ISO standard allows for up to:
1 stuck white/black pixel
2 single or double bright or dark sub-pixels (don't know what these are?)
3 to 5 “stuck on” or “stuck off” sub-pixels (e.g. green always on but other two sub-pixels working properly)
per million pixels

This means a 1920x1080 screen, having 2 million pixels can have 2 stuck pixels or 6 green pixels and still be OK. A single 4K screen has 8 million pixels - I'll let you do the math! :)

Without DSR sales would go down a lot for online retailers considering some of the things people try to get away with. Ive had cards from here missing everything inc games and bundle. I have had stained monitors, dead pixels, screaming banshee cards and sometimes i just want to see something before i buy it.

Inspecting the goods is a fundamental thing online retailers must grasp, In a real store people can walk in and test goods to thier satisfaction. Now they are expected to blindy purchase and have faith in the quality control. I do not really see the problem considering the benefits an online store has over the bricks and mortar stores.

If people abuse the system, Blacklist them.

What about a premium "personal shopper" service like all them rich birds have? :D

Bung Gibbo a fiver and he will pick you out a sound panel... :D

Dell's premium panels have a 3 year zero bright pixel guarantee, I believe Apple have a similar policy, not sure on other brands but you would think that must be standard for all £300+ monitors or people would only buy Dell/Apple ones.

In a real store there will be certain items on display that you can test in a limited way.

They're unlikely to open a sealed product and allow you to test it to your heart's content.

You would be surprised, I have actually asked purple shorts to demonstrate a monitor is pixel defect free before buying and they had no issue (it was for my G/F and she needed a new one that day)

Going out on a limb here, but if I was spending £500 on a gpu, which I did with both of the 290xs I had, I'd dsr them no problem if I wasn't happy with it, I wouldn't due to one being a poor clocker or not fitting my colour scheme as I thought it would, but if I wasn't 100% happy it would go start back.

With gpu's constantly increasing in price, I wouldn't settle for anything else when spending that sort of cash.

The thing that annoys me is that I have to wait until I've got 1000 posts before I can enter the MM, which is claimed to keep out the shady people, and yet on the other hand there are people who buy products at full price only to then say they'll DSR that product if they don't get the discount. And these people have over a thousand posts.

If you bought the item at full price then you should pay the full price because there is no justification for a discount that wasn't active at the time of purchase. All it takes is a little patience; chances are the item would appear in TWO or the daily deals at some point.

Try asking if you can install PC components to test them out before making your mind up.
