Spanish Football 2011-2012

This fixture last year was a tricky one for Barca IIRC as Sporting were pretty good at parking the bus, which they've done well today bar the one goal. Barca clearly missing Iniesta and Fabregas as the 3rd part of the holy triangle as both are injured.

Barca are a bit sluggish tonight but I think it's telling that they don't look the same team when their midfield is deprived of Iniesta and more recently Fabregas. Created barely anything in this game.

What a boring game of keep ball by Barca.

Thats all they really need to do, score and play keep ball. No one can beat them if they do that. Boring.

i checked out barca's squad on fifa, and i'm amazed how small it is a few injuries to defenders will be very problematic for barca, they really need to sign 2 central defenders badly.

Indeed, they really miss a more mobile creative midfielder without Iniesta and Fab. Dare i say i would try a front three of Afellay, Villa, Pedro and drop Messi deeper a bit?

already hitting them pretty hard, getting away with mascherano as a central defender at the moment watching the game last night, and busquets (?sp) iirc.

think they've been lucky the past couple of seasons with next to no injuries to there main players, or only minor niggles/little time out.

not sure what other injuries they have at the moment, know puyol/pique are coming back from injuries, abidal was taken off last night as a pre caution.

Their current injury list is:
Pique
Puyol
Iniesta
Fabregas
Sanchez
and Afellay supposedly.

Puyol only played 17 league games, missed most of the season really(Barca normally play 60 odd games at least), PIque missed a decent number, Abidal had cancer and missed 20-30% of the season, Maxwell missed half the season....

didn't do to badly last season from what I remember ;)

It is quite funny because of how few injuries they had till around xmas last year, for 3-4 seasons before that.

They've got cover, they've got defenders, they've got midfielders, we just haven't seen much of them, doesn't mean they aren't good.

They haven't dropped points this season due to injuries, and very few last season, they've still spanked loads of games, the points they've dropped this season were due to a poor setup, Alves in midfield, Valencia had chance after chance after chance, dropped him back to a proper back 4 and then they dominated the second half.

ALl their injuries are doing is making it slightly harder to win every single game, they are still pretty much winning every single game. Puyol, PIque, Abidal will all likely play a lot more this season than last, so if they can win everything last season, they'll have no real issues this season.

The depth of their first team is ok bar the defenders but they can always call on their b team players who aren't too shabby.

Messi ripping the place up again.

I wonder if there will come a point where he will want to move just to try playing in a different environment? Happy as he is at Barca its getting to the point where theres no challenge left for him!

Ronaldo has done it in a couple of leagues, maybe Messi will fancy doing similar at some point?

I bet he gets bored of scoring.

:p

I can just see a scenario where for his own personal satisfaction he might want to be successful in a different environment.

Maybe his personal life is such that he would never want to leave but from a professional POV i can see him almost becoming TOO successful at Barca as daft as that may sound.

Higuain looks is SERIOUSLY good form this season, I saw him get a great hattrick for Madrid a few weeks back and then watched him playing for Argentina against Chile the other day (had a bet on it).

Very clinical, I think this could be a real breakthrough season for him.

I would bet my left nut on Messi never leaving Barcelona. No other club is good enough for a player like him.

He's been angling for a move to City for ages. Going on about how Aguero made the right choice, we're a great club, etc etc. It's almost a bit sad!

:D
