Spanish Grand Prix 2016, Catalunya - Race 5/21

For me, Rosberg made his move to defend before Lewis was alongside him, Lewis still went in for the move.

I don't think either driver deserves a penalty.

Season turning point for me.

Sure Lewis's starts have been .. poor, but look at what happens when they go head to head, Rosberg forced to use his joker in their first confrontation.

Lewis will always win a fair head to head between them, and Rosberg can't take him out every time. Going to be a close season and I think reliability is probably going to have a hand in it.

Wasn't there something similar, (Schumacher was it?) on the main straight where someone was almost run into the concrete barrier?

Barrichello in Hungary.

But rule 27.7 was only written a couple of years back. It wasn't in effect when Schumacher made the move.

I disagree, I see Rosberg moving across and then Lewis realising and backs off but it's too late by then. The speed of Lewis must be taken into account, when Rosberg moved over Lewis had absolutely nowhere to go. Had he tried switch to the left he would have hit Rosberg and would have been given sole blame for the incident.

Rosberg moves twice in that GIF imo.

A 'move' in F1 is in one direction. A second move would have meant Rosberg going left, which he didn't.

The moves rule is to stop weaving. It also only applies to braking zones. Your allowed to weave down straights.

Are you mad?? Two DNF from Rosberg and two wins from Hamilton and he has the lead.

It's far too early to write anything off. If there were 5 races left I would agree with you, but now??

If Rosberg gets a penalty for the next race (which he should) then Hamilton will start pulling back points already and a Rosberg DNF becomes all the more likely fighting through the field.

Yeah, maybe a bit of an exaggeration but also I wasn't writing anything off! As you've pointed out and as I alluded to, a couple of DNFs from Rosberg would potentially bring Hamilton back into it. I was also thinking it was a bigger points gap with quarter of the season gone. Still, luck/circumstances need to start swinging back to Lewis sooner rather than later...

Hamilton seems to be a lot more mature in his general approach and response to setbacks this season but if Mercedes echo Lauda's initial comments it will be interesting to see how Hamilton responds...

Lewis wasn't backing of at all he went full pelt into that.

Yes Rosberg goes to the left for the braking line and then clearly moves over to block Lewis.

Rosbergs fault and intentional by the looks of things.

Its certainly a deliberate move so any claims from Rosberg that he "didn't know he was there" will be a flat lie.
