SPAZ - Space Pirates and Zombies

Trying to take the science ship thing out in chapter 2. Having trouble since it keeps deploying ships so I have to go take them out so the station recovers it's shields then just deploys more.

I'm using a right hook and 2 colts.

got it, put 3 beams on the right hook instead of cannons, got rid of the shields quickly enough.

I enjoyed this up until about level 40 and I feel the game lacks variety goto gate kill ships do same missions to get tech from shops goto next gate rinse and repeat.

Does the game get better than this?

Aside from fighting zombies in Chapter 3 then REALLY fighting zombies in Chapter 4 with quite a twist on how things work, I guess not.

The main problem is the difficulty. It starts off incredibly hard then gets gradually easier and easier, gets a bit harder in chapter 3 and you might get slaughtered now and then, once you finally get your Huge ship it takes a giant leap to easy again.
Right now (at lvl80) I'm using a Hammerhead. Before that I was using a Crawler and had some pretty intense fights with some Huge ships and some funny fights where I had to kill things in Gyros and some that needed repeated trips to finally overcome them.
Moment I got the Hammerhead, nothing in Chapter 3 can threaten me. I can use 10 Fusion Beam Emitters and disintegrate T3 bases in seconds or 10 Overload Emitters and hunt down ships with ease. Top it off with a Stable Cloak, Overcharge Reactor and an Intertial Engine and you get a pretty good killer.

Finding the "Big Fish" fight kind of difficult at the moment. I've seen suggestions online to use the Crawler. I don't have it yet - any tips for getting it? :)

Which fight is that?

All you can really do is check Warp Gates or find high strength systems and hang around in Civ vs UTA fights or do missions.

If i was a betting man its the fight where your mothership get ambushed by a one eyed man :p. I didnt have much success with him until i had a crawler. Fortunately i had the plans for it at the time and didnt have to go searching

The place i found crawlers the most were on gates around lv30, if i remember correctly

Looks like I'll just have to carry on spamming the battles then. Ah well.

Thanks for the level tips. I think I may have been hanging around in systems that were too low level - probably around 25 (I think I'm 30-something).

Oh that fight, Pookie was raging about it :p

Simplest way to victory is to ignore everything but the Huge ship. Once thats destroyed everything else retreats. I think it might be the same for everyone, it has 3 sides with good armour and 1 side with weak armour, so you just have to take your Right Hook/Crawler/Large ship and focus fire on the weak side.

Yeah, I tried to ignore the other ships but I think my main issue is not firing on the weakest armour side. Probably that and the fact that I'm not specialised enough (and the specialities I do have are in things like beams, shields, reactor, etc).

Nope. After level 70 in the end game, you have to go through EVERYSINGLE star system and fight off the Zombie Infestation (similar to clearing blockades up to that point, but now the Zombies are doing the blockades).

You can only travel to adjacent star systems, and you cannot leave until the zombie infestation is cleared. Also star systems you clear that border still infected systems are prone to constant Zombie attacks that you need to travel back to in order to defend.

I cleared about 20 of the zombie infestations, then got bored.

I did it at lvl37 on Expert with only 125% base damage in beams and whatever bonus Cloak gave me. A cloaked Right Hook going to the weakened armour side (well... after getting the wrong side first :p) took it down fairly quickly.

Its difficult to make it still challenging at that point for all builds while still being possible. Beta it was insanely difficult and you simply couldn't stop the zombies overwhelming you and infecting your ships en-masse. Now getting infected is a low priority (thankgod) and the zombies spawning and health was curbed a little too much.

What is the difficulty by default? I think I read about it being Hard, which I assume is easier than Expert :) I'm definitely early 30s so I guess I should be able to do it really. Perhaps I'll try out cloaking.

So how long did it take you to get to Lvl 80?

Once you get through the titan gates you get a ridiculous amount of data from destroyed ships and any missions you manage to do (some can be cloaked and take no effort) give you a lot of data too. Not to mention some of the science ships give a nice exchange rate on data (some have 1:5 ratio and have 1000-2000 to offer).

I've been playing the demo for a few days now and am just downloading the game on Steam.
It might fill a void where Elite left me many years ago!

Excellent game. Must be lvl 80 something unless 80 is cap. 25 hours in and had a tremendous amount of fun.

My ships, are SO fast. I have 3 specialists (one is godlike) all geared towards engine speed/acceleration and I just donut everything - it's brilliant :D

Theres an achievement for lvl100 so no, I don't think there is a cap.

That must be fun with an Inertial Engine. I've also got a spec who improves Manoeuvrability by about 50% and my Hammerhead is pretty fast but the Right Hook has crazy turning speed.
