SPAZ - Space Pirates and Zombies

It's also not all that suited to mouse and keyboard in my opinion, would play better with a 360 controller and feels like it belongs on XBLA if they could just sort the difficulty out.

Ok I think this might explain it FT... the controls would not be suited for a control pad, not even close. And as for the difficulty, did you bother to check the settings? It goes all the way from Easy to Insane (afaik from the achievements).

If you're getting killed at gates 5 levels below you, the fault is your own.

Heres my flagship. The Hammerhead.

And currently zombie shields are bugged and don't reflect mass drivers which makes them insanely powerful.

Wow, must have missed that in my tiredness this morning.

...control pad? 0_o

Though actually I can imagine it being playable on a control pad - just massively more difficult.

I'd say it would be near impossible on a gamepad.

Going to give this another play tonight enjoyed it! :)

For sure a shame no multi :(

Crawler is epic. 4 Cannon Boosters and 4 turreted Cannons of your choice and you can shred anything.

I just got the crawler, but its 8 small turrets are weak compared to the hook's 3 large guns. Though it doesnt run out of power using 8 small lasers and keeping a triple beam hook powered is really difficult.

Up to chapter 3 now. I need to find a huge ship design I can use, but I do like my engine boosted right hook with super fast turning speed a lot.

These are the ship designs I'm using. The right hook is specced for maneuverability and turn speed so it can get fast and accurate shots with the large beams (yellow engine screws it up completely), the other two are capable of sustaining fire for a very very long time before they run out of juice:

So far I have only found one yellow reactor, shield and armor blueprints, and I cant find anymore :(

The left specialist is uber, it has beam range, acceleration and crew repair bonuses! I'm trying to also find a maneuverability one.

The crawler is a good choice too for a beam spec because it can maintain fire permanently without running out of power with 8 small beams plus a beam boost upgrade:

But its super slow compared to the right hook.

I finished it earlier. My engines are still at lvl3, Cannons lvl10, Reactor lvl10, Shields lvl10, Armour lvl8, Hull lvl7 and just upgraded Subsystems to lvl10 for the booster increase. Fortress Shield gave my Hammerhead 4500 shield which was... helpful :p

I did like the right hook for its mobility but Crawler with its turrets are so much easier to use. With Heavy Armour it could take a ridiculous amount of punishment from most enemies at that time. With Mass Drivers and 2 wingmen sporting anti-shield weapons you could tear things apart from well out of range. The game could really do with some numbers though so you can actually tell how powerful Large vs Small is.

The crawler has pathetic range too, and its too slow to catch up to stuff.

Try the right hook out with a triple beam and 2 engine upgrades (my screenshot had reactor upgrades that I had been testing out, having 2 reactors / 2 beam upgrades or one of each did very little to help power the triple large beams :()

I gave the grinder another try to with a huge beam, but it turns far too slow to keep focus on anything. I think that the Grinder or Crawler are better for attacking bases with, but the right hook is unbeatable for fighting ships.

Another good thing about the right hook is that because of its maneuverability and wide frame, it can collect Rez easily without a tractor beam.

I think you just have to accept that power is always going to an issue till you get the Overcharge Reactor really... With that and Reactor boosted to lvl10 I can fire 6 Large Mass Drivers with 1 Huge, 2 Med, 2 Small Cannon Boosters (and lvl10 subsystems) for a good 30 seconds before running low and it recharges quite quickly.

I found the leech beam and that overcame all my power problems :)

I have a colt with 4 small beams / 1 leech, Saucer with 3 medium beams / 1 leech, and 2 large beams / 1 leech on the right hook.

Currently using the right hook with two reactor boosters, but run out of power very quickly (even with 3 cannons rather than beams).

Reactor + weapon boosters do little to help the right hook, best to just fit it with two engine boosters to make it faster and more accurate.

Im getting pwned on the quest mission that needs you use a cloak to sneak up to a prisoner ship, I never leveled nor learned how to use cloaks yet :(

Giving it a break for a bit while I install and try out From Dust.

Leech beams still providing near infinite power even after the nerf? For the Colt I prefer the ultimate shutdown with 2 Ion Emitters and 1 Leech Emitter with 2 Boosters. Then you just gear your own ship up to rip through unshielded enemies.

I'm trying for a Cloaking build this run anyway. Expert and 150 stars. Once I get Mass Drivers I'll be using my other ships to get up close and use Ion Scatter Cannons to rip the shields away while I sit back and spam them to death with amped up Mass Drivers from the cloaking damage boost. Might throw in drones too and see how things go.

Yea I used each ship manually and a single leech beam is powering a colt, saucer and right hook with blue beams in all the other slots. .... until the target runs out of power but then its done its job.

Seems the SPAZ website has been overloaded ><

I always found leech emitters themselves were very poor for shutting down an enemy which is why I favoured the Ion Emitter route. 2 Small ships can strip a Huge ship of all its shields in moments, leaving the means of destruction up to you.

Oh the leech emitters werent very good on huge ships though, only on large or smaller. Huge ships were pwning me like mad. These are the ships I'm using atm with the leech emitter:

Skid Puff is epic :D

Yeah you need Ion Emitters to really drain a Huge ships shield/power before it massacres you. Right Hook/Crawler and a Hammerhead/Sunspot are just worlds apart.

So he's a mans man and a crystal polisher. Seriously how wrong is that :p

Offtopic - But is anyone having trouble with the Logitech website? Mine goes straight to server not found..

Likes to work with men

haha

I need to find one more blueprint for Ion Emitters. I already have level 8 beams, but also dont seem to be able to find any yellow beams anywhere, I only see green blue + red :(

Finding it really hard to keep motivation in playing, the last hour has just been warp to a system, kill the UTA on the next jump gate .. warp to next system to get closer to the storyline. Theres no interest or interaction with the masses of pointless systems around the outside.
