The sub (if active) and AVR are actually the parts of the chain I'd lean toward buying new.
I think people generally pair the Q-Acoustics you're looking at with the BK Gemini but I've heard mixed things about it, probably due to it being more on the compact side which you might not necessarily want to opt for unless tight on space.

The Denon X2700H I have currently is only a couple of years old and works well with the media setup I have
The sub is active and 100w, probably not that great but at least will tide me over until I find a new one

Made a slight upgrade, from a single sub to three
Personally I'd avoid really cheap floorstanders. I've gone that route myself, the cost cutting results in lower quality speaker overall.
I own quite a few loudspeakers, two way bookshelf sized to big 5 driver floorstanders.
out of curiosity, for the cables, is it best to use those banana plugs for connecting the cables to AVRs and speakers?
