The sub (if active) and AVR are actually the parts of the chain I'd lean toward buying new.
I think people generally pair the Q-Acoustics you're looking at with the BK Gemini but I've heard mixed things about it, probably due to it being more on the compact side which you might not necessarily want to opt for unless tight on space.

The Denon X2700H I have currently is only a couple of years old and works well with the media setup I have
The sub is active and 100w, probably not that great but at least will tide me over until I find a new one
I’ll use that thread recommended to look for one

Thanks, will see if I can find itThink it's mr wolfs thread with a spreadsheet. Helped me with a guide, and it seemed accurate- I had a sub in the list and the two matched up that I was on the limits of that single sub in the room.
Made a slight upgrade, from a single sub to three
Personally I'd avoid really cheap floorstanders. I've gone that route myself, the cost cutting results in lower quality speaker overall.
I own quite a few loudspeakers, two way bookshelf sized to big 5 driver floorstanders.
out of curiosity, for the cables, is it best to use those banana plugs for connecting the cables to AVRs and speakers?
Cheers, will get some ordered to go with the new speakers.
I don’t have a perfectly square shaped room for a home cinema but I’ve got the speakers positioned as best as I can.
TV on the fire place wall opposite the main sofa, front surround speakers in the corners facing the sofa and rear speakers to the side / slightly behind the sofa
Having the front speakers in the corners, is that the best or is it better to have more central eg either side of the fire place
They seem to perform ok where they are as you pick up on the surround sounds when watching a film but just curious
