It's up to you. I said what I said as a recommendation only, it's up to you to decide whether or not you want to do it ;)

But I can tell you that the Phenom II X2 555BE as a dual-core at stock speed 3.20GHz pairing with a GTX460 1GB is that while in most not so demanding gaming situation it would be fine, but during CPU demanding game scenes the frame rate could drop sharply, not because of the GTX460 1GB has reached it's max usage, but because of the CPU is not fast enough for letting the GTX460 work at its full capability.

Personally if I had a GTX460 1GB, I'd definitely overclock the Phenom II X2 555BE to 3.8-4.0GHz.

It's slower than Phenom II, wouldn't recommend it.

Just do what you already decided above, and consider CPU cooler later. The benefit of getting a aftermarket cooler now instead of later, is that you don't have to go through the trouble of removing/cleaning off the thermal paste that the stock cooler left behind on the chip. It's a easy enough job (wiping away the left behind paste with surgical spirit/thermal paste removal fulid using a piece of microfiber cloth/napkin), but not sure if it's something you'd be comfortable doing if you haven't done it before. There's some video on youtube which will tell you how to do it.

That's the way the cookie crumbles. offers change every week, but there is normally equivalent offers. You'll have to go through the spec and change a few things (normally just the brand of something) to take advantage of the latest offers. Sometimes you can do better than before, sometimes you just can't.
 
Just want to point out that you won't get a decent build with a GTX460 1GB at much lesser than £600...it's would be unrealistic to expect the cost to be closer to the side of the £500 mark than the side of the £600 mark :p

Na, the Intel overclocked 4.40GHz bundle with USB3.0/SATA 6Gb/s motherboard wasn't even on offer :p At £300 with a decent CPU cooler and a high overclock is a bargain :D

Going with a GTX460 768MB (£125) instead would reduce the cost by around £48.

i3 530 on offer this week only a fiver more than the phenom II X2 555. Beats it clock for clock but will clock higher too. Hyperthreading means it wont take such a hit as the AMD when games are using more than two cores. Still worth considering imho. Of course you have no chance of unlocking a quad - if that pays off with the 555 you're laughing. I duon't know what the success rate of unlocking a 555 is though.
 
Since we're considering a scratch-build on the AMD option, makes sense to compare the same with the intel option and build it ourselves. Comes out pretty close to budget including a big cooler ready to OC (although at stock it will still beat the stock 555). Or keep it stock for now, remove the cooler and it's under budget - OC later.
