Spec me a CCTV System

I can view all my IP cams through one of my TV's simply because the NVR is connected via HDMI. But could you get a cheap type of Android Mini PC sticks and then use something like Blue Iris or some other IP camera app installed onto it and thus see the cams...?

I'm so out of touch with computers now I've never heard of these before but it looks like it would work. Found this article about it http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=1049

Looks really good whats it like at night?

I will have to try later as I have just installed them all now.

The one I took a pic of is basically pointing at the floor to a warehouse door. So I do have a nightvision pic from it but it is of the floor that is not very far away, still a lot better than the D1 Swann system it replaced!

I have to say the main point is that this cost £599.99 for 8 x 1080p cameras, with the NVR, 2tb WD purple drive and 18m cable for each camera. Supports email alerts on motion, recording only on motion and mobile viewing etc

Also just ordered a DS-2CD2032-I 4mm for £51 and the free postal delivery. I have already had email to say its been shipped, could be a wait though.

Yey camera arrived Thursday so took 9 days (ordered on 5th). free delivery and no customs charge.

only thing is it didn't come with a power adapter - is that right?

Yeah no power adapter, it is a POE camera isnt it?

All my stuff turned up earlier in the week, so I had a bit of a play. Very happy with it all and the cost. The psu in the 7608NVR has a 40mm Delta fan in it so is pretty loud, before I do the final fit once ive moved I'm going to swap it for a Noctua I think.
The only other thing I didnt expect was the the Exir LEDs in the bullet cams light up at night pretty brightly, not 100%happy about that I would have liked them more discreet at night.

The fan in my 7608 NVR is barely audible, either that or it isn't working - damn I might have to crawl under the loft to check it now - bah.!
It seems to run well with the WD 4TB purple.

The IR LED's don;t seem to be too bright to me but then again I see them as a deterrent. I only got one of the bullet cams and five of the domes, which I prefer.

I would be interested to know if yours is quiet, I have seen a few reports on the net of them being loud and assumed it was normal especially after seeing it was a delta.

I'm sure that it is working as I moved it up to the loft and plugged it in to find nothing being shown on the monitor until I realised that I hadn't flipped the switch on the back of the NVR. Then I can hear it running before it makes its first beep.
I would still call it quiet though, even though my analogue 16 channel DVR (which has been turned off) is really loud and anything after that will seem quiet.
I know that the 7608 must be quiet though as I could just hear a hum when it was in our bedroom temporarily.

I will next get to see it on Monday(ish) when my lock box arrives.

Ok been up to check and it is indeed silent. In fact I had to hold my hand at the back to ensure that it was working, which it was.

I might give use-ip a ring tomorrow and see what they say.

Just found a pic here of the power supply in our NVRs and this one appears to have a different fan to mine. I don't suppose you could get a photo of the back of your NVR to see what fan is installed in it? My delta fan doesn't have any blue in the label. The part no. is Delta EFB0412HHD, it pushes 9.5cfm so the Noctua should be a straight swap.

This took a lot of crawling and effort to get my Nexus 5 to focus in such a darkened space....

...and it is very quiet.

link me up to the one you bought and how much was it...?

Also what and how many cameras did you buy, and from the same supplier...?

Thanks for doing that. Its a delta same as in mine. Its rated at 9.4cfm at 30db, maybe your is throttling. Mine doesn't seem to though.

I just bought a Noise Blocker PM2 rated at 9cfm and 18db for a tenner of the bay. Noctua didn't do a 40mm fan with similar airflow in the end.

For cameras I bought three DS-2CD2232-I5 (two 4mm and one 6mm) and a DS-2CD2132-I in 4mm, all four camera came to £272 plus £13 tax from DHL before they would deliver. Bought on AE from XinRay Opto Electronic Tech. I then paid a little extra to a guy on the CCTV forums called CBX to change the region of the cameras to English, I can update them each time and not have to bother resetting the language as they think they are UK cameras now.

You are welcome :)

As I noted mine is running very quiet and throttling might play a part in that, not sure why that would make yours so loud though, unless it isn't throttled..?

I too used the services of CBX to do his magic and provide a software solution for the firmware and the cameras. I wonder if he has a set price he charges each of us or makes it up etc...?!
I wouldn't have called it cheap.!

My cams have been updated to the 5.2.0 firmware and the NVR to 2.3.9.

I ordered the six cams noted in post #211.

I also used AE and the supplier HUABEN Technology Co., Limited

The DS-2CD2232-I5 looks really nice and the EXIR aspect will work well in low light. You paid a good price for those :)

Not sure about the DS-2CD2132-I, did you need a dome like that rather than the DS-2CD2332-I type...?

Did you buy the NVR from the UK...?

The dome is going under a low garage soffit so wanted something that couldn't be moved. I bought the NVR in the UK as I wasn't sure about the language and didn't want to get stuck with a Chinese interface.

The firmware change wasn't particularly cheap for four but I think it was good value when you factor in the total cost to get four English cameras.

Did you find any benefit to 5.2.0? Mine are on 5.1.6 and I read somewhere they loose facial recognition in 5.2.0, don't know how true that is though.

...ah makes sense with the dome and its positioning. I checked with the AE supplier about the NVR and thankfully it was entirely in English and needed no work to support the latest 2.3.9 firmware.

As long as Hikvision does not get too concerned of how he is circumventing their regional coding then hopefully we should be fine for any future releases.

I had been in two minds and went back and forth with the 5.2.0 firmware. As one of the reasons for my hesitation was the facial recognition that does indeed get removed but as it did not work anyway it doesn't seem to matter.

From what I have read the 5.1.6 firmware seemed to have been removed by Hikvision, but I could be wrong, not long after its release and yet a lot of these cams are sold through AE with an English hacked 5.1.6 firmware loaded.

In the upgrade notes they seem to refer to changes from the 5.1.2 version and not the 5.1.6.

Not sure I notice much difference after the upgrade I think that it was more of an exercise to see if what I had paid for from CBX would work, and it did.!

I'm just about to move so am fitting everything I want in the house before we decorate it. CCTV is something I have fancied since our cars were broken into a few years ago, its not a bad area generally. Its just a nice to have really and the perfect time to fit it along with the alarm system.

Need more cameras to go with my DS-2CD2632F-I.

I purchased my cam from a uk supplier but looking to buy from China as my cam is over £150 cheaper there. You guys mention getting CBX to help you.

Can I ask why as I thought it was just a matter of changing the firmware or I'm I missing something?
