Spec me a CCTV System

Hey guys, I'm looking for something I can put in my babies room. Cheap and cheerful, doesn't need to be HD but have good night vision (infrared?) and I'd like to be able to check it out my phone (Android). Is this possible without breaking the bank? Thanks!

The EXIR turret type are so much better than the non EXIR type. I would not get a vanilla type again having replaced one just for the low light capabilities that the EXIR cameras offer.
Mine are not that high mounted and yet it would take effort to mask or damage them. One camera also looks at the other, offering some protection.

I would also take a look at the 4mp EXIR cameras. They give the impression of being even more capable than the 3mp type.

Thanks Vimes, one thing Im thinking may be a factor is that all door ways/areas have PIR activated floodlights. Will this cause an issue switching between pitch black to flood lit?

Actually another query - on the EXIR bullet cameras the cable just comes out of the back of it? The older style went through the stand from what I can see. Link to image here. Is there any issues with this other than aesthetics?

Im not definite but Im sure there are some issues with babies staring at infrared light and it damaging their eyes? I thought about doing something similar for my son when he was born but then thought that babies have survived for hundreds of years without constant monitoring so personally think its a bit ott? An audio baby monitor has proved more than enough in quite a big house.

Just go for an ibaby - very good night vision, movable and about £60 used off ebay. Works on PC, android and iphone.

I have PIR controlled floodlighting and it does work as a deterrent as I have seen on camera intruders turn and leave the garaged area as the lights turn on. BUT, big but, it does give a short period of camera blindness and then a change as the camera flips from black and white to colour and then back to black and white as it adjusts to the floodlight going off. Not too happy with tha tas one potential intruder was completely over exposed at a critical moment due to the floodlight turning on when he triggered the PIR for it.

I have deliberated about making changes and I have even bought myself a 12v Infra-red floodlight to provide that type of lighting but held off as I like the normal floodlight as a deterrent. It is also useful when we go outside late at night as it lights up the side and rear of the property.

That is the same stand arrangement tha tI have on my EXIR bullet type camera. The stand isn't the best but in my case it is way out of reach. The cable is typical in how it exits the camera but I have bought 12mm diameter flexible hosing which fits the plugs and cables inside and cable and then P-clipped it to the wall and ran that to a junction box.

Does anyone have a trick to prevent spiders ruining the night pictures? Seems they LOVE the IR, and most of the motion shots I get at night is from a spider faffing around out of focus in front of the lens :-)

For a third of the cost of that spider spray (which is just cheap citronella oil),
you could buy a proper IR light and mount it somewhere else.

If you mount it closer to the target you'll also get much better pictures.
Just remember to disable the camera's IR leds)

{ebay - IR illuminator}

I'd never hear about IR potentially be harmful to the eyes. An, admittedly quick, Google shows there may be something to is alright but nothing proven in either direction. It's not worth taking the chance on though i don't think.

Thanks for that Nutcase but in light of possible harmful effects I think I will stick to the regular audio monitor! It was only a passing thought really anyway.

Hey guys, been reading through the last few pages and seems like hikvision are the go to brand.
I am looking for a system for my house as getting a bit paranoid leaving the house empty on long occasions.
I would probably need 3 at the front to cover the angles. 2 bullets and a dome over the door perhaps? And 2 out the back. IR would be useful for night recording. Cameras would need to be outdoor waterproof etc. Not worried about running cables or drilling into the house!
I have a computer that could be used as a server or I could buy another? Not sure how it all works. How much storage would I need? Looking at a 14 day loop. Accessible online / apps etc.
Could anyone spec me something for my needs? Would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I am after a CCTV camera for my home and would really love to have an internet service to view feed while away from the home. Also I really do not want to have to install a Hard Disk recorder and screen in the home just to watch the feed.
Ideally I would like to just log to a home page and view up to the 2 weeks or so footage from the camera.

Any ideas please what make / system I need to be looking at ?

Many thanks

Tysonator You can do this by purchasing a Hikvision camera with an SDcard slot - these are about£70 more expensive than the versions without

You will have to calculate what size card you need - they will take cards bigger than 32GB

Thats for the info.
Are the SD cards mounted in the camera, if so I might be up and down a ladder as I want to install mind up on my house ! ?

Hi lads after reading on here I am just about to hit the buy button on the following and would like to check it seems ok with you first.

2 x Hikvision 3Mp dome cam DS-2CD2332-I and wall mounts
1 x Hikvision DVR DS-7604NI-E1-4P

But, if I add these as items to my basket its cheaper than the kit they list with the same items (no wall mounts). Have I missed something from the bundle kit I cant see on the site?

I will be buying the leads and HD from here with some other PC stuff. I need to check im not creating a headache for myself trying to save a few pounds.

Cheers

Andy

I've just picked up and installed two HIKVISION's DS-2CD2132F's ($95 each from China) overlooking my driveway, and two Samsung Smart Cams (don't know the model numbers) but accessable via Samsungs SmartCam website or iOS app. They cost me $120 ea

I have SD cards in all of them, which records when it detects motion. Also I created a gmail account, and have my two HIKVISIONS's send 3 pics at 2s intervals, whenever a line is crossed over my driveway.

Can't wait to catch who's been pooing in my mailbox !!!!!!!!!

They're pretty good.. Very easy to configure, as it just registers the mac address on the samsung smart cam site. No networking knowledge needed. Plug and play. Ethernet or Wifi. You can even leave uPnP off on your router, and no port forwarding needed... No need for a DVR either as the SD card does a fantastic job at recording movement. Night vision is also excellent.... Not POE, so you need to power with the power adapter.

I have two in my garage, which are sprayed matte black and you'd not know were there, unless you were looking for them.

Don't think the samsung tablet of tv makes any difference tbh. I just use a browser or an iOS device to view / playback.
