Spec me a CCTV System

Some of the Reolink cameras have built in sirens. How good they are, I don’t know I’m afraid
Yeah mine has a built in siren
Can even set it off remotely
It's decently loud yes
But a dedicated alarm sirens probably louder
Since can fit a bigger speaker in it
And can have flashing lights etc

As always it all depends how much you want
To spend
Reolink stuff is decent for the cost definitely
But not really top of the range stuff
And as simon42 said
Physical security is even more important than cameras

I see that Reolink and Euify are recommended here for CCTV, do either of these integrate well with an intruder alarm with an external sounder? I'm looking to install both CCTV and intruder alarm whilst doing my house up.

Ajax is the best solution for both alarm and surveillance cameras in one ecosystem. Ajax also works with Dahua cameras.

Dahua have a new-ish alarm system called Airshield but it’s not as good as Ajax and doesn’t have as wide a range of sensors.

Looking for some help please

Got a vile neighbour (long story been ongoing for 2 years, started with she keyed my car now she is throwing rocks into our garden)

Police are well aware but need to get hard evidence so they can arrest her - she now has a PCW but she's started up again

I have 3 Google Nest cameras outdoors but their motion capture doesn't pick up the rock throwing

Looking for a discreet device I can put indoors on the window sill of my sons bedroom to look down on their garden (semi detached) and record her, she will be between 3m to 15m away and can watch the footage back to catch her throwing rocks (hopefully clips are tagged when there is action?)

Anything out there not crazy expensive/complicated do this?
This is the best indoor cam in my view https://www.amazon.co.uk/eufy-Secur...fy&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1732387226&sr=8-19

Only problem with indoor cams looking out of windows at night is the nightvison glare.

If I was in a similar position, I'd set up a decent camera such as a Reolink Trackmix with a 1Tb SDXC card and have it recording 24/7 - you'll get about 2-3 days of footage (less with sound) before it starts recording over the old stuff. You can also record the feed on your PC/NAS if you want more storage (Onvif protocol).

I would have it aimed at my own garden, but if the viewable area "accidentally overlapped" the property boundary, I wouldn't be too upset...

I wouldn't rely on motion capture; it's more likely to miss something important than it is to pick up.

I like Reolink as they have a Windows client for accessing and viewing your cams on a PC. Most other cams on the market all seem geared to using a phone app only.

The WD Purple HDD in my NVR has gone really noisy, probably on the way out as it has been on non stop for about 6 or 7 years.
Can I replace it with a 4tb SATA SSD that uses the same connections and if that is an option are there any recommendations for a SATA SSD for an NVR CCTV system?

Thx
Bintos

You can, but it all depends on bytes written per day and the specified durability of the drive to work out how often you could be replacing it.

There are higher endurance SSD drives but they are very expensive, however if you aren't writing much which seems likely if looking at 4TB then maybe its not too bad. I have lots of cameras so for me its four WD Purples and I am currently on a mix of 8TB and 12TB models but have also used 4 and 6TB previously, and the only size that makes any noticeable noise is the Helium 12TB model (the higher density drives seem to re-seek the head regularly for calibration I believe).

I went the opposite way when my 4Tb Toshiba S300 died and took a punt on a "refurbished" 12Tb Seagate Enterprise Capacity v7 (ST12000NM0127) - 7200rpm SATA drive.
The one I received was brand-spanking new and unused (managed to register the serial for warranty) for a penny shy of £100.
It's certainly noisy, but my NVR is hidden away in my data cabinet, so it doesn't affect us at all.

Hi everyone
I hope someone can help me with specing out a CCTV system for the house. Recently a number of people have been targeted in our area with people braking into sheds, damaging cars and seen acting suspiciously in the early hours of the morning (according to the detectives who asked me about my eufy doorbell and single camera overlooking my car).

I have done my best to do as much research as I possibly can but all the reviews I see must be paid for as there's never any criticism & whatever they have in front of them is the best in the world.

I have been thinking about a CCTV system for sometime & I find myself reading through the posts on here. I thought I would start on the newest & work backwards as that would give me the best opportunity to find the newest equipment. From what I have read, there's a lot of love for reolink in the past 12 - 18 months but I am not sure this will give me the quality I need (it's the same with the eufy system as slow to notify me & the image quality isn't great.) A system that is quick to spot a potential intruder on my property & a notification on my phone is high on my wishlist.

During my research I have become a closet camera spotter & I have noticed we use hikvision cameras in work for security purposes and I see them in shops etc who are serious about prosecution thieves.

This has lead me to look at a hikvision system. I know you only get what you pay for. So I have been looking at the cameras
DS-2CD2387G2-LSU/SL

And a DS-7608NI-M2/8P to run the system with purple WD drives in it.

In my head I am thinking these cameras as I want the best quality camera that will work with the ambient lights from the streets. I am thinking fixed turret style cameras. With a 4mm lens above the garage looking down the driveway. Another 2mm lens on the opposite corner of the house covering the front of the property & giving a view of the driveway. Also another one sitting on the side of the house overlooking the side entrance into the back garden (unfortunately the front is all open plan but the back has a high fence around it). Then in the rear another 2mm lens on the back of the house overlooking the french doors & towards the shed.

I think 4 cameras will be a reasonable starting point & add more if required. So looking at a 8 port NVR with 8tb drive.

Thanks to everyone who has got this far through my ramblings. I think my biggest concern is when I price up these 4 cameras, NVR, drive, cat6 cable, mounting hardware etc etc I am going to find that my very healthy budget is going to come up a little short.

So I think the question is, am I spending my money wisely or just going for equipment that people on YouTube etc are just pushing due to sponsorship etc.

Any help or advice on which direction to go will be gratefully received.

PS. What is the legalities of private citizens having a phalanx gun, with full tracking system on top of their house (live ammo is optional)

Thanks

I’ve got a Reolink RNL-810 NVR with a 4TB Hdd fitted, and 3x CX410 cameras, all installed via a POE switch.

What I can say is the notifications for movement are virtually instantaneous. I can step out my back door and within 1 second, my phone alerts me.

Quality wise, they’re what I would call decent, without being incredible. Daytime footage is really good, and night time is decent, so long as there is a bit of ambient lighting. I have security lights and when they come on, the night footage is great.

I’m thinking of upgrading at least one of the cameras to the CX810, more out of curiosity than anything else, as I’d like to see what the difference in quality is.

On that note mind you, I’d think most serious criminals are likely to be masked up etc, so the footage you get will not be a good facial capture anyway, so something that’s good, with instant notifications was what I went for in the end. It’s more a visible deterrent and an early warning system as far as I’m concerned.

I love Reolink cams. I have them at my old house and currently installing some at my new house too, I also have the 36 camera NVR. All cams connect to my network via PoE switches and wifi depending on the cam. The NVR is connected directly to the network too but don't have the cams connected directly to the NVR though.

The link in my sig shows some of the live feeds via FTP.

Thanks to both Diggsy and LeeUK for your input. I will have another look at Reolink
Yes, definitely do. There’s no doubt the Hikvision and Dahua and the likes are a step up from Reolink, but it’s a more than decent system for most home users I think. Others may not agree of course, but life would be boring if we all agreed all the time :D

I am sure I will find the right setup for me
