Spec me a CCTV System

Here we go again - Got a new DS-2CD2335-i and am now going through same problem I had with the other cameras.

It's Password again - What I have failed to do on all three cameras is see them online by plugging into POE switch then input IP into a Browser - I tried IP that is with the camera - tried all others shown on menu screen and never once has any of them connected - Just get timed out - So I had to resort to password supplied with camera and as you know they don't work - The SADP tool can see it but I can't do anything with it.

To top it all Hikvision's server has banned my IP address - email for Password reset is sent back.

I wish I had bought a 1911 Browning and more security light's

Coupled with this since I started messing my bullet camera at front (one with all black face) is playing up since I started messing but don't remember touching any existing settings -- it works fine but every 20 seconds or so it looks like it's looking at a flash of lightning - screen goes bright removing all detail then goes back to normal - It also does that in dark except it goes black then brightens up to normal again.

This post is mainly at ask if anyone knows why the installed camera is flash or dimming

Surprisingly the one I had all that trouble with is as good as gold and best camera - clear -good vision and not jerky like front one which I think is slightly out of focus.

I am now off to tip and this system is lucky it's not on trailer with all the other load of crap.

This is really really doing my head in.

Anyone know why the prices of some of the Hikvision UK cameras have shot up this past few days?

I used to buy the DS-2CD2342WD-I for less than £130 and they are near £180 now. £50 jump. Disgraceful as I needed a few more. Several dealers I have priced now have it at the exact same price which is odd.

Best cameras I have especially at night but £50 hike takes the biscuit.

When you say "menu screen" do you mean SADP, web browser or the menu of the NVR?
Oddly enough one of my cameras went on the blink after the storm Katy or whatever it's called. I took it down at peril to life and limb and dried out the connection. Trouble is now it only connects to the NVR and not the POE switch.

I'm currently awaiting feedback from Hikvision.

The Ubiquiti solution seems pretty slick, or Synology Surveillance Station.

After using a lot of different terrible interfaces over the years, I'd only be looking at these two.

Footman

I have set my system up so the NVR is in loft - Because it's a PITA to keep going up for any reason I have a Ethernet lead from next free port on NVR down to my desk plugged into a POE Switch - The switch is then plugged into back of BT HH- this gives me access to online directly - or can unplug lead to HH and use switch as extension from desk to new port in NVR

I can even plug any new camera into Ethernet lead direct to NVR if you see what I mean.

The IP addresses from menu is all those shown on NVR menu.

I use SAPD tool to first fire up camera and although it is shown in list as active so far I haven't seen it on NVR.

This is what I am going to try now - I have left camera plugged into switch hoping for a password rest but seems like one isn't coming so will turn camera off and start again.

I have had a major leap forward on this CCTV lark.

I have now got third camera working due to what was said in a earlier post - I was just looking through menu in NVR and checked an existing camera - That was set up manually so checked new one and was on plug and play - changed to manual -put default password and it now works.

Now as I said I couldn't get into the cameras by IP address in browser - Duh !!
I use Cyberfox and it doesn't support Hikvision - tried it in Firefox and I am in online.

I now quote from film Galaxy Quest - "Never give up - never surrender"

I have learn't so much since starting on these NVR's and cameras - So thank you to everyone for giving me the :rolleyes:-- with out the help and advice I would have been lost - Well I was totally lost but found the right path out of the darkness in the end.--:)

Indeed that is good news.

Not a criticism but an observation..... It is when people are using things like Cyberfox to try and access their cameras, but then do not mention it as they would not know it to be an issue, and people try and offer advice not knowing that they are using such a browser, that it then becomes very difficult to support across a forum without actually being there.

At the beginning, IIRC, I just used Internet Explorer, until I was sure that all was well and then installed the web components for FF etc. I have had too many instances of access issues to banking sites etc in the long and distant pass to not automatically revert to that with anything new. And I don't mean the Edge browser either.

Vimes

Observation noted - I have been using CF for over a year and I remember in the early days I did try FF but then nothing worked and I had no idea what to do.

Although I say it's working it still isn't right - Because I am still using default passwords on two of cameras they are all showing up as camera 1 - so all three cameras are showing camera1 although they are in port 1-5 and 8 (don't ask)

I have still to work out why and how to renumber them.

I haven't use IE for probably 10 years.

Thanks again.

One of my issues is that to login and see the pictorial representation of my Netgear POE switch means that I have to use a certain version of Java 7, it will not work without Java and still not work with Java 8.
I have reported this to Netgear in their forums, others have also noted this issue, but still it is like it is.

If I understand what you mean you change the name of the camera from within each camera, via a browser....

how to capture screen

the one above is called Front 1

You can also do it from the NVR.

I got five 4MP DS-2CD2342WD-I Turrets the other day. Fantastic picture from them and the picture at night are a lot better than two of my 2332 turrets. If you are looking for quality for day and night, these 4MP turrets are cracking.

I see now why a large number of they were installed at Gatwick airport this week.

Are you sure Gatwick has some bargain Chinese cameras installed, and not the cameras that the Hikvision design was borrowed from?

Where did you buy your cams from? I'm interested in the 2342s.

Used to use other online uk stores but found Netviewcctv far better to deal with and pricing much better and no one could beat them at that.

However, all UK Hikvision sellers like the above have now been told to set their prices at RRP now and that's why the prices jumped to stupid ones.

I was lucky enough to get a deal done despite that knocking nearly £50 of each camera and I have the bonus of not paying vat hence why I don't need to go down the Chinese import route.

Nope, UK DS-2CD2342WD-I models were installed.

Ok thanks, I'll have a look at them. I'm torn between UK support and Chinese prices. I guess you just have to take the plunge one way or the other. I'll probably err on the side of caution and go with a UK supplier.

eek they are now charging £172 for one of those cameras, point being made why though....!

Still it is certainly a price hike.....!

What NVR or recording solution are you using Scream...?

I am using a DS-7608NI-E2/8P for recording.

Cameras worked out around £110 exc Vat each for me but cost me £105 exc Vat back in Jan when I got a few. Two 2332 turrets cost me under £90 odd each in Jan.

Not sure why Hikvision are price hiking but must be clamping down and don't want their sellers to be fighting over pricing that could force them to import Chinese on the quiet to compete.
