Spec me a CCTV System

Bought my hikky cameras from these guys:

https://www.use-ip.co.uk/

Very knowledgeable and helpful. Looks like they've got a 20% discount off hikky stuff at the moment too!!

I got my 2332 from them, left a review for it and won a 2132 as a result lol!

I do have a 2532 (or somat) which is an import so havn't upgraded that camera. Need to get in touch with the supplier and ask for a newer upgrade file.....

Ouch not cheap if you go wireless :(

Out of interest when there are products stating that you get 30 days of retention out of a 1TB disk, how many frames per second are you talking?

I have a foscam that kind of does what I need it to do, given I've got one already, i'm tempted to just get that hooked up to software? No idea what to use though? Is a QNAP nas good at that sort of thing?

Hey DHR - I'm pretty sure QNAP have a similar application for CCTV as what Synology have. You should be able to use the to record to no problems.

I wouldn't bother with wireless personally - its a PITA as atmospheric conditions can affect signals especially outside so not something I would recommend.

In a pinch though like I am now.... this could be a real boon for me. Just downloading surveillance station.

Just after some advice on cctv, my sister is building dog kennels and is wanting to have a camera for each dog with up to 30 camera's in total. She would like the owners to be able to check in on their dog using an app and since I'm the one who is into tech she asked me to find out what she needs.

Have a look on HD CCTV that's where I got my stuff from I have them in the kennels as well to keep an eye on the dogs and it's handy if I look after people's dogs while they are away they can log in and check in them. If it's just for putting in kennels I would go for a 960H system the quality will be good enough to keep an eye on the dogs in the kennels.
And with the AHD DVRs they are backwards compatable so you could have a mixture of HD cameras and 960H stuff.

Hi Guys

I have been recommended this camera (https://www.use-ip.co.uk/hikvision-ds-2cd2542fwd-iws-2-8mm.html) by use-ip because of the features I need. I'm unsure of where to mount it and how to mount it. Can anyone recommend a mount and I'm looking to cover the cars, door and the side gate if possible.

Here are some of the mounts - https://www.use-ip.co.uk/search/?q=hikvision+mount

If I was doing that install myself I would be looking at using two cameras one facing down the drive to see people coming up the drive and another on dedicated to the cars? The one on the drive could be used to cover the gate as well Maybe mount them on the corner of the house? Side by side if they dome cameras don't know where your DVR or NVR is located or the network set up in your house for getting cables and power to them?

Edit

Just looked at your pic you could one on the end of the garage where you suggest and one near the drain pipe for the gate?

CCTV cameras

Anyone know a bit about CCTV? I'm after an outdoor dome IP + IR with good range CCTV camera. There's no broadband at the location where the camera will be, so I'm thinking about hooking it up to a 3G router so I can login to view remotely.

Spent like an hour trying to work out where this forum was haha.

Not neccasrily CCTV but this the closest thing to it really.

We are moving office this week to a much nicer area/Unit. The actual office is upstairs, the stairs to go up a pretty much right in front of the front door.

We want to set up a camera to stream to an upstairs PC to be able to keep tabs on the front door from upstairs. Doesn't really have to record but a stream. As I'm the most tech savvy at the company it is now my responsibility to set this up :D

So what exactly would I need/whats the best way to set this up. He hasn't really given me a budget as neither of us have an idea of the cost.

Basically after one camera to stream upstairs, doesn't have to record. Would be beneficial if all PC's could access at once or maybe just set one screen up on a wall mount in the corner. What would you recommend?

Any recommendations for a camera? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cameras/CCTV. And you can just stream it through a browser. What will the delay be like?

If it helps we have a server in the office.

The company next to where I work who we used to own had £100k of copper stolen the other week. It was quite funny reviewing the CCTV watching them drive past our building several times throughout the day to load up.

We have a camera set-up which shows a perfect frame for a shot of the number plate each time, the only problem is they're awful 352x290 res cameras. Enhance doesn't work like it does in the films :(:p.

@Snookums Grab a cup of tea and read the thread. All your needs and answers etc have been gone over several times.

@Pho Too many people watch CSI to think that is real.!
You can struggle at times with 1080p without optimum lighting etc.

Nice catch though.

I have had a look through and can't find much on just setting up a camera to stream. The only one was a few pages ago someone asked for a Simalar setup and was recommended a hikvision camera. All of these cameras I am looking at state they are only compatible with hd-to DVRS.

If, for example, you bought a Hikvision camera you could install it and access it via a browser.

There are variables to that and then recording would need to be considered.

I can access my six IP cameras via my NVR on my internal network of external via an IP address using port forwarding on my router. Or each of the six cameras can be accessed likewise.

The above is noted in more detail in this thread.

Good luck, there are other links in this thread to dedicated CCTV type forums.

Cctv users check in

Hi all,

Just moved to a new house which doesn't have cctv and looking to get it fitted. The purpose is to keep an eye on my car. The previous system was dvr and the quality was **** and the camera didn't cover the small driveway.

I have no idea what to look for, ip camera? Dvr? Looking to keep about a weeks storage with a potential to transfer this data to Amazon s3/glacier or the like.

Budget, ideally want to spend as little as possible but if we say £200 max? Will be reading through this thread for similar scenarios.

Any advice is much appreciated!
