Spec me a CCTV System

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know a camera setup that doesn't have OSD on the cameras? I want to send the output to a live display on the cheap and don't want the text across the top.

Cheers. :)

I think the Hikvision cameras let you decide if you want the onscreen displays, as it's something that if you've got a PVR that can add the text you don't want it duplicated.

Yep, the Hiks can do this.

Anyone lost the ability on their Hikvision cameras to send emails?

My NVR and Hikvision cameras all fail all SMTP testing, regardless of which SMTP server I use.

My Grandstream camera is still happily sending emails without issue though...

The yandex email mentioned on the other forum works ok, I had a problem with it to start with as I put the incorrect details In and it locks t b e account for 24 hour's.

The bigger picture for me is what are hikvision doing to sort there firmware out? And when or if they do how are we going to update our Chinese cameras?

Sorted Yandex account.

Works for test emails from the NVR and cameras. Unfortunately it only seems to work for motion detection on the cameras individually, can't get motion detection emails from the NVR anymore.

Really frustrating, but at least I can get them from the cameras themselves. Not ideal.

How something can just stop working for so many people without an update is beyond me.

Guys can I have a recommendation?

I currently have a qvis system. 4 cameras with two ethernet runs to each camera. One ethernet cable does signal the other power. Quality is ok at best and rubbish at night.

I am about to have the house rerendered and the cameras are coming off. As a result I may use the opportunity to fit new ones. The runs can be recrimped back to standard ethernet if necessary. Whats a good quality dvr/camera setup that wont break the bank. Must have a good app.

In addition I do have a high end qnap nas I could use instead of a dvr. Better option?

I have a question about the best way to wireup a CCTV system.

I have some oldish but decent sony dome cameras and a generic DVR that has web access etc. so not the best kit but good enough to watch the shed and cars on the drive.

Whats the best way to wire them up, i was planning to futureprrof the system by running cat5e, should the cable be run inside the house or is it ok for it to be outside (you would need a 2.5m ladder to reach the cable to cut it).

I would be using baluns then to connect to the cameras and DVR's,i was thinking of putting a junction box on the outside wall, running the cat5 to the box, and putting the balun in the JB, and then screwing the camera to the JB itself, if thats a stupid idea, can someone reccomend the best way to do it?

I have been up dating my CCTV system at home the old system was 960H system run on CAT5e I am replacing the cameras bit by bit, I have a new 1080p DVR and the cameras are AHD ones he is a snap off one of the new cameras, please note I do have a raymax IR illuminator on the house as well.

Guys

Been reading the thread for the last week, as I need an IP camera to watch my front door, as I work in a home office in the garden, so will save me having to go answer the door for no reason.........I have a POE Switch and Home Server already so I think I just need a camera.

Positioning etc is a mystery but thought I would just buy a camera and try some locations out, the aim is to then buy further cameras and have a full CCTV system covering the whole house.

I have two questions:

1) If I buy a 2.8mm Hikvision camera and decide I need a 4mm can I just buy a second lens and change it or just not possible

2) Seen these guys, pricing looks good, I think they have just lowered their prices, anyone used them have any opinions on them.......http://www.cctvempire.co.uk/CCTV-IP/Hikvision-IP-Camera-4MP

Thinking of getting the EXIR Turret camera.......£122

Thanks

That's very good. What does all that kit cost?

Sorry for not posting back sooner the cameras are

https://www.hdcctv.co.uk/products/a...-security-camera-xhc1080vv-g-xw.html?___SID=U

and they have stopped selling the DVR I have but if i was going for one make sure it has UTC (UP THE COAX) which allows you to adjust the settings of the camera from the DVR such as lux settings ect

Have a look at there range of DVRs they have some good stuff i'm going to upgrade my DVR again now they have introduced the UTC stuff.

I will try and post some more screen shots off my DVR as i have replaced more of the cameras.

Finally got my new EXIR Bullet camera from China working - I seem to struggle getting them working - all got to do now is mount it on wall and cable through loft - When weather gets a bit cooler.

Had to go through all the generic passwords till found right one.:)

Been messing around with this one now may alter where it is mounted but here is a shot from it in the day time thats not my car by the way!
