Spec me a CCTV System

Hi Guys

I have been recommended this camera (https://www.use-ip.co.uk/hikvision-ds-2cd2542fwd-iws-2-8mm.html) by use-ip because of the features I need. I'm unsure of where to mount it and how to mount it. Can anyone recommend a mount and I'm looking to cover the cars, door and the side gate if possible.

Put a dome under your porch in the corner with an appropriate lens to cover your garage doors and front door of your house. Putting a camera where you suggested, as well as being easy to sneak up behind and smash/cover, won't see any faces of people at your front door.

This is a nice tool to work out field of view of different cameras: https://ipvm.com/calculator

Are there any cameras you can buy that record to an SD card and are battery powered? There's an area I want to put one that is too far from the house to run a cable or connect to over WiFi. I'm thinking I could just leave it running and retrieve it when it fills up or the battery needs charging.

Has anyone had issues using the HikDDNS and the iVMS-4500 app?

I can get it to work perfectly if I input the IP and port in iVMS but if I set it to use HIDDNS I get 'The Device is not registered in the DDNS'

I've made sure hik-online is showing the correct IP, which it is, but absolutely no luck getting it to work. I need it to as I don't have a static IP.

These forums never cease to amaze me. Take an obscure subject like cctv for example. You think you may not get many informative replies, yet once again the knowledge base of the members is colossal. With that in mind, hopefully some of you can help me to choose a cctv setup.

Requirements.

8 camera capability, although only 4 needed initially.
None of the cameras will be outdoors.
IR/nightvision not needed.
Cameras will only be required to record during business hours ie 8-530.
CNN broadcast quality not needed but by the same token neither is the "tights over the lens" effect either.
All cams will be monitoring areas approx 20ft x 20ft in size.
Self contained. I want to transfer footage at the end of each week to review.

Budget=best bang for buck. £300 ish?

All input appreciated.

Glad there's already a thread for this.

A friend is after a single camera system to watch her car as she had some shady characters hanging around it last night. Not after anything too expensive but something with good quality for a reasonable price.

£300 each or total?

Four cameras and a DVR will be pretty low end for £300.. But yes, doable.

I'd go more if it was for my home, but I think that given my requirements I should be able to get something that will do the job for the budget. A months recordings will be ITRO 220 hours. Optics only need to be of high clarity upto 25 feet or less. Low light performance not too importand as monitored area is lit with strip lights.

CCTVCentral have a load of kits. I'd go for Hikvision which is half decent budget stuff. I cam seeing 4 camera HD packages for £200-300 region, depending on specific camera type and HD size.

Thanks for making me aware of that site. It definitely looks like it's run by people who know what they're talking about.

Regarding what my pound can get me, can you tell me what the difference between these two setups is.

Swann

Hiky

I'd assume the Hiky stuff is much better but I'd like to know if the advantages it has over the Swann setup would be relevant considering my requirements.

Hi everyone, since this thread clearly has people who know their stuff when it comes to CCTV/Home security I was wondering if you'd be able to help me.

A family member would like a 1/2 camera CCTV system to watch their car as their was a recent incident. From what I've gathered they would need to be able to identify a reg plate and/or persons face. The house is about 10/15 meters from the point where the cars parked.

The budget is relatively low (Up to £200) but if needs be I can get them to increase it :)

So does anyone have any idea on a system which may be suitable (I'm new to all this stuff so any help is greatly appreciated) :)

Anyone had any joy with 1 way windofilm or plexiglass? The Mrs won't let me put the camera in the window because it's too visible and to be fair, once the person it's there because of clocks it I can understand her point.

I am currently considering some CCTV for my home but need some advice please. My garage block is not attached to the house, it is around 50 meters away across my driveway and I want a camera inside the garage that can provide a full 360 degree scan with movement recognition. Ideally I want something discreet but high quality with ful night vision capability and to add to that I want something for the rear and front of my house as well. We don't live on a street but I do have a building with various covenants so ideally I would prefer something I can mount inside the house beaming out, or something very small and discreet but again with a 180 degreed scanning capability and high quality night and day ideally all linking back to a box or PC application that will tell me if movement is sensed.

I don't live on a street and have a fair chunk of land out back but I want to check no one is having a nose around when I am not there as I fear someone is. Don't know where to start and budget is what it needs to be to do it right.

Thoughts welcomed.

Do you have a power source in the garage?
As that will influence what is possible for it.

For the front/back of the house possibly a small camera hidden in something (bird box facing out?) if you want discrete.

Any reccomendations for a NAS for CCTV.

I was looking to purchase the Synology 216J, but it has now sold out on here, anything else worth looking at in the same price range?
