Spec me a CCTV System

Guys, I could do with some help as I'm in two minds about what to do here.
Due to our neighbours house being lived in by some seriously odd characters, my father and I have become concerned about the noise and unruly behaviour by them lately. We've decided we need something monitoring the front driveway & footpath, as well as the rear garden.

Given the above, a two camera solution is required however I need to do this in small batches as my budget is small £170 is as high as I can go atm. I took delivery of a UCam247 Outdoor camera yesterday. It has Mini SD Card dvr functionality built in and records at 1080p (15-20fps) well enough, with decent nightvision footage. I am accessing the built in footage via a android app on my phone so it's a wireless affair there. Costing £144 I feel as though I can do better so I may just return it.

I have been looking at the attractively priced Hikvision DS-2CD2335FWD-I and I have some questions if I may.

1. The camera has a built in mini sd card recorder. Can I use a phone/mobile device to access this footage? Or would I ideally be best off with a NVR? Something tells me I'd have to remove the card and connect to a PC in order to access the footage but I'm not sure.
2. Should I go the NVR route, does the box need connecting to my router? The thing is quite a distance away so this really isn't a possibility.

If I do go the 2335 + NVR (Hikvision DS-7604NI-K1-4P) route then I'll most likely use this setup with a spare monitor+mouse somewhere in my living room I suppose, and later on purchase a second 2335. Thanks chaps.

Can't answer question 1, but for 2, from what I've seen so far I don't think the NVR would have WiFi so would need to be connected probably if you want to remote view

I'm also looking to get a home ( outside ) wired security system( 3 cams ), with night/low light vision, motion detection , weather proof . live feed ,but , I have no idea what to get and what kind of price I would be looking at .

So any recommendations would be nice .
thanks :)

So after having some trouble with cars over the last year I think it may be time to actually get a camera installed to watch them.

I am not after a while home solution system and a single camera with recording and night mode would be fine. Recording can be on it's own or to cloud etc depending on cost. The easier to install the better.

Knowing nothing about cctv I went to google and it brings up so many options I got lost in the chatter. One that did come up is a Nest Outdoor. Seems easy to install and 10 days continuous recording is only £8 per month altho the camera plus subscription does get expensive as time goes on clearly.

I have a media server at home so could use that to record and run software but no idea what I am doing.

Any got a quick option? I've tried going through the thread but all the systems seem far more than I need. Basically. 1 camera. Day and night record. Online or home storage. Couple of hundred quid budget.

Asking the impossible probably but thought worth an ask.

What media server have you got? The big boys like Synology have their own software which is fairly easy to use.

The only think that put me off with the Nest is that it's attached to the wall with a magnet. What's to stop the intruder running off with the camera?

Media server is actually just a windows 10 box running plex with a chunk of disks in it. If there is not software to use on windows then would have to look at a dedicated system.

Didn't realise nest was fixed with magnet. Not ideal really. Needs a permanent fix really.

Has anyone had any experience with the Ubiquiti cameras? I'm thinking of putting something up at the front of my house (paranoid after a couple break ins in the past), and have been looking at the Hikvision 2342 or Ubiquiti offerings. I use Ubiquiti kit a lot in work and at home and I've always had good experiences with it, just everyone seems to recommend Hikvision!

Guys can you give me a verdict on this CCTV I just got as it's my first and I don't know what to think:

All I can say is I'm not impressed but I'm used to smart phones and GoPros. The colour on the bottom pic is also more towards yellow on the actual CCTV... it came out nicer looking when taking a pic of it with a digital SLR that fixed the white balance.

Seems Hikvision are stopping sales in the UK to everyone except trade installers. UseIp have a statement up about the situation with Hikvision over on their website.

On a side note I've just bought a DS7608NI-E2 for £180 which I am going to upgrade my 7608SE-P with before they are too hard to get.

That sucks! Haven't bought / wasn't quite ready to buy mine yet.

I assume that means Amazon will stop selling them too?

Not too sure I want to invest into the brand if future upgrades will be hard to get in the UK... Hmm

Looks like the stock for everything is drying up in the UK. It sounds like they are trying to move the brand into a more professional light as I've noticed a lot more Hikvision cameras around these days in shops inc. jewelers and even at Gatwick airport.

Hmmm might just have to find someone in the trade then who can supply them :D

Sounds like they don't want to have to deal with end users. Get trade installers to deal with the good range (and tempt them in with exclusive supply), do a cheap and nasty consumer range that retailers have to deal with.

Sounds like Use-IP are pretty annoyed about the whole thing and actively looking for alternative products to replace Hikvision.

i have just read about the hikvision supply drying up. I was thinking of replacing my 2 x DS2CD2032-I 4mm 3MP IR Mini Bullet Camera with 2 x equivalent hikvision dark fighter bullet cameras

What would recommend ?

4K UHD HIKVISION DS-2CD2085FWD-I (4mm) 8MP or

DS-2CD2035FWD-I 3 MP (4mm) Ultra-Low Light

I finally setup things correctly on for my Hikvision camera, before I was simply recording the main view straight to a hard drive, now I have installed the storage server part of it and have a dedicated HDD for video files, and its recording away on the all the time template. I also setup motion detection on the same template, in the hope that, I could look at previous footage, with motion detected bits showing when it was on the timeline, but it seems I cant do this with a PC storage server ? You need a Hikvision DVR apparently ? (When I try to search for video files, it tells me a certain DLL is not supported).

Nevermind, found a roundabout way of doing it !

Also, before I have just created a network share for the video files are, so I can access them from my PC. I would like to now be able to view the files through my main PC (rather than remoting into the server hosting it all) through an install of iVMS, but im not having much luck. Is there a proper way to do this ?

Wasn't planning to get any yet but just grabbed two more cameras while I can. And emailed hikvision telling them what I think.

Novice in this world so hope someone can point in the right direction. We're wanting to get some CCTV cameras up on our house, possibly looking for a kit of 4 cameras plus NVR. The plan is to put a camera on each corner of the house (below the roof/guttering) then run the cables to my office which is at the back of the house. Dome cameras in black/grey would be preferred. Would also like to be able to remote view the cameras and have the best quality we can for money. Are there any go-to kits which fit these requirements? Not sure on what a good budget would be, would £1k suffice or should we look higher?

Are you looking to install it your self? If you are then its within budget for a decent NVR 4TB harddrive, 4 POE cameras and a roll of network cable.

Any tips on focal length to cover a 5m x 15m driveway? Camera would be at one end, about 2.5m high or good height for decent angle to see people. At the minute I'm thinking 4mm but might need to 6mm?
