Spec me a CCTV System

Its a DS-7604NI-K1 / 4P with firmware V3.4.92 build 170228. I tried checking for an update, it told me I had the latest.

Regarding the stuttering, I download a few files to view them locally on my PC, I noticed that, when it typically pauses for a few seconds on the playback web interface, on the local recordings, it plays smoothly, but for those few seconds where it would typically pause, a weird ghosting effect happens on objects that are moving, like a streak of weird colours follows the moving object, then suddenly disappears for a few seconds back to normal.

Seem to have fixed it, set iFrame's to 20 (same as frame rate), no more choppy videos so far (was set by default to 50).

Also found out how to show motion events under the blue bar in the web interface (no idea how through iVMS), while playing the video, clicking the button shown here and selecting motion shows motions events under the blue bar -

I've been thinking of getting a CCTV set-up the past year, and recent events have spurred me to get this sorted.

I'm completely out of my depth when it comes to CCTV and would likely get an installer in. Ideally, I would like two cameras fitted.

Are there any installers anyone would recommend (East Midlands area)?

Would anyone be able to give me a rough idea at what I would be looking at for two reasonable cameras plus extras and installation?

I've been looking at getting

4 Channel 4MP Hikvision HiWatch IP NVR-104-A/4P Mini Case

4MP Hikvision Hiwatch IPC-B140 6MM 55° Mini Bullet IP Camera 30m EXIR

Would I run into any issues?

I'm also wondering what the HiWatch series is like.

This is what i'm looking at currently. The cameras are the B140 4MP and i'll get a 4TB WD RED/RED Pro drive separately.

Has anyone got any experience of the Netamo outdoor security light camera? I'm looking for a simple camera system to monitor the garden/rear entrance which doesn't require a subscription and can be viewed remotely. My budget is around £250, anything else worth considering?

There was a lot of grinching from re-sellers that the new consumer brand would be dumbed down consumer versions at the same prices as the professional ones, but then it would seem a lot of these vendors are now selling them. No idea if they're as good, mind.

Some useful information that I discovered today.

I bought the 5mp Hikvision cameras to replace a couple of my existing 3mp and 4mp Hikvisions.

It turns out that the 5mp, despite the same 2.8mm lens, offer a much more narrow view and are 4:3 in resolution. No idea what Hikvision were thinking. Image quality is no doubt better, but what a shame to ruin what was a great viewing angle with the 4mp 2.8mm versions.

Looks like I'll be putting the 4mp camera back and returning the 5mp cameras.

hello all

all this talk goes right over my head but i need somebody to spec me a cctv system please.

I want two dome cameras that move on the front of my house, one fixed pointy camera down the side and two dome moving cameras at the rear of the house

i need the box to control it all and the software too, ideally with wireless connection to our internet, if not then wired is doable

budget? i dont know what to expect but with the amount of crime down these parts, it is what it is.

many thanks

So you want PTZ cameras? They're a lot more expensive than fixed domes and bullets etc.

Any reason why you want them to move or what you think you'll do/achieve with them?

My drive way is very wide, currently i have a wireless system from amazon with bullet cams but struggle to cover it the way i would like. was thinking this would cure that

Looks like the wired one only has a view angle of 70 degrees, which I'm assuming the wireless ones will be similar.

Lens size often dictates view angle, but as I've recently discovered, it doesn't guarantee it.

Looking at Hikvision as the representative example, 2.8mm lens is the one with the widest angle of view at 102 degrees, but only on certain models. Some models with the 2.8mm lens have only 80 degrees for example.

So I don't think the answer for you is a PTZ camera, but instead a camera that supports a wider angle. Personally I don't trust wireless cameras, always cable where you can.

PTZ cameras are pointless unless you sit watching the cameras 24/7, so your essentially now a CCTV operator.

you want cameras you can set up and just leave rather than have to monitor and move them every single second of the day.
