Spec me a dehumidifier please?

Wifey proper loves the dehumidifier, at this time of year, she's always struggling to get the washing because it's not possible to hang it outside but the dehumidifier has completely changed that. We have it in the back room, just set in smart mode at 50% and it does a fantastic job of drying the washing.

I'm thinking about getting a smaller one to put on the landing upstairs. How well is that likely to work, sucking moisture out of the rooms?

Considering that's where they tell you to put them for the whole house I imagine pretty well. I only have one on the landing keeps the while house at the target RH.

Works very well for us, as long as the doors are open.

The Meaco comes with a rectangular HEPA filter in the back. The plastic cover over it gets clogged quite quickly and can easily be cleaned but the filter itself needs replacing at regular intervals.

Where are people buying these filters from? What’s the best place for price?

I bought the Meaco Arete Two 20L just before Christmas. It is game changer for me. I initially bought it to dry the house out by placing it on the upstairs landing with doors open, works great, reduces the humidity down to 50% from 65% fairly quickly. Howver it is when drying clothes that it even better for me. Drying clothes on an airer at this time of year just does not happen, seems to take days in my house. But with the Meaco, set it off in the morning and dry by late afternoon. Bit of pain moving the unit up and down the stairs but worth it.

I'm thinking of buying a second desiccant dehumidifier saves me moving it around the house

I don't use the filter at all, it increases the power usage, and I don't need a HEPA filter.

I've got a smart plug with power monitoring and it makes zero difference to the power consumption whether the filter is fitted or not
Your the only one then, I tried it with and without over a few days and it definitely uses more, matches what someone else on here found as well. I presume the fan needs to run harder.
You then have the ongoing cost of filters. Do you have an air quality issue, that means using the filter is a benefit?

It varied up and down between 240 and 245 watts with and without the filter installed, it was never completely constant there was always a little bit of up and down.

I've searched the thread, the only person I see saying anything about the filter increasing electricity use is you.

Dunno, I don't have an air quality monitor.

Well my power meter disagrees.

But back to the question.
Back when I had my Ebac 2650, I grew tired of the filter costs. So I bought some foam from eBay and cut it to size and that seemed to work well enough and it also increased the airflow slightly too - in turn increasing the dehumidifier's efficiency and lowering overall running costs, which is what I suspect @robj20 is referring to when they aren't using a filter.

Personally I'd rather use a filter of some sort, just to reduce the amount of dust reaching inside the dehumidifier. When the dehumidifier isn't being ran during the summer, I would disassemble it to clean any dust out, helping to maintain it's efficiency.

The Meaco has a dust filter already, I don't use the HEPA filter. I clean the dust filter twice a week.

Found some HEPA filters on Amazon, took ages to get dispatched as they were out of stock but they arrived and look exactly the same as the official ones at a much lower price.
Got a link please? OcUK don’t sell HEPA filters so it’s allowed :)

Had a Meaco dd8l for a couple of years and it's been ok, just ordered an Arete 1 20l hopefully it won't have to run so often.

My 20lt is getting emptied every two days at the minute. Amazing how much water they take out of the air.
I've got some damp issues after a kitchen leak last year, I want to dry the place out properly and I think the dd8l is struggling a bit.
